COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course concerns the study of functioning and dynamics of the market for labor. It is an economic analysis of how workers, firms and the government interact in shaping
the outcomes in the labor market including demand and supply of labor, employment, wage structure and earnings, distribution of income, human capital, labor market
discrimination, labor unions, labor mobility, migration and unemployment.

COURSE OUTCOMES

The course aims to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of labor economics. Specifically, at the end of the course, students are expected to:

ASSESSMENT AND GRADING

Grading will be based on the accumulated scores/points from the midterm and final exams, quizzes, module learning activities, attendance, recitation, home-based projects,
and other requirements set. The course grade is determined by the following criteria:

COURSE POLICIES AND EXPECTATIONS

A. Face-to-Face Class Policies


1. Adherence to school COVID-19 guidelines/policies concerning the wearing of a mask, social distancing, use of alcohol, etc. and bringing of personal ballpen, paper,
and other materials. A student can stay home if he feels sick.
2. Regular and punctual attendance to classes is highly expected. A student may automatically be dropped after eight (8) consecutive absences. For absences such
as illnesses or other matters, prior notification or submission of an excuse letter is a must.
3. Active participation in classes is encouraged. A student must stay focused and be involved in every class discussion giving his best comments, questions, and
answers.
4. Observance of appropriate behavior and respect for others. Standards of civility appropriate to learning must be observed as stipulated in the PSU Student Handbook.
5. Attendance to scheduled examinations and quizzes. Make–up exam/quiz will only be arranged provided the student has a valid reason for missing a test. Make-up
may occur within one week of the regularly scheduled test, otherwise, a zero score will be credited.
6. Turning cell phone and other electronic devices off or silence it to avoid class disruption.
7. Cheating during examination is strictly prohibited and expects a drastic disciplinary action. Plagiarism of work assignments is not strictly tolerated.
8. Consistent and on-time submission of assignments and other requirements. Late assignment/homework for two to three days loses 50% of the total assignment score.
9. Asking permission to leave the classroom. Refrain from asking to use the comfort room during class discussion times. If given such, one should get back in class
within 5 minutes.
10. Presence of student course kit including the subject notebook, syllabus, course and study guide, calculator, etc. in every class meeting.
11. Keeping the classroom always clean and in order.
12. Other matters to be agreed upon by the class.

B. Learning Management System (E-learning Class) Policies


A primary Learning Management System platform (Microsoft Teams LMS) will be utilized to deliver synchronous and asynchronous classes to learners. The students
are required to create an account and enroll to the secondary LMS platform (PSU Economics NEO LMS) accessible at www.psuecon.neolms.com. These LMS
portals enable students to get learning resources including syllabus, study guide, e-books, and other learning materials. It is also used for assessment activities like
online quiz and assignment submission. Students will be oriented about the use of LMS and will be provided a copy of the LMS manual and training video for further
guidance. The following are policies to be observed in the conduct of the LMS class:

1. No sharing of LMS account. Others are restricted to access student personal account details.
2. Duplicate or multiple accounts are not allowed. In case of a forgotten username or password, contact the instructor immediately to retrieve or change the user log-in
information. Further, the creation of a dummy account is prohibited.
3. A regular visit to the LMS portal is encouraged to view the class announcement, read lessons, take an online practice quiz, etc.
4. Observance of punctuality and wearing of decent casual attire during scheduled video/web conference in the LMS. There must be no private conversations as well.
In case of absence during video conferencing class, prior notification must be done.
5. Appropriate behaviors are expected when communicating with the instructor or peers. Respect shall be observed for both the instructor and students.
6. Any form of cheating during an online quiz or test is prohibited. Plagiarism of online assignments is not tolerated.
7. Use of Arial font face, size 10 across all LMS activities–emailing, chatting, submission of online submission, and so on.
8. On-time and complete submission of online assignments.
9. Asking questions or making queries related to LMS usage, course concepts/lessons, assignment, and the like are strongly welcomed.
10. Use the course notebook to write the solutions of answers during online tests or assignment. Make use of it also to take note of general experience and problems
with the online course.
11. Logging out is required when finished or completed using the LMS.
12. Other matters pertaining to the use of LMS to be agreed upon by the class.

C. Course Expectations

As a student enrolled in this flexible blended course, you are expected to


1. Abide by all school policies set out in the PSU Student Handbook.
2. Adhere to all the class policies prescribed for both face-to-face and online classes.
3. Comply as much as necessary with all the requirements set for the course.
4. Have basic computer internet and computer skills like the application of MS Office documents, PDF, etc.
5. Be prepared and participative in a flexible learning environment. Preparation and participation are the keys to progress.
6. Appreciate the use of online learning via Learning Management System (LMS)
7. Balance and plan time wisely to ensure a productive and successful online learning.
8. Set study goals to meet assignment due dates and required deadlines.
9. Evaluate your standing by keeping track of your progress and performance in both face-to-face and online classes.
10. Apply the course outcomes as much as necessary.
