PROBLEM - SOLUTION ESSAY

The global consumption of plastic is causing increasing pollution problems on

our planet. On the one hand, plastic offers advantages over other materials because it is

light, resistant, inexpensive and durable. On the other, it represents a huge problem for

the environment, especially in our water sources.

The planet's water is the receiving body for a large part of the plastic waste

generated on earth. Every year, between 5.3 and 14 million tons of debris end up in the

world's water sources.

Currently, plastics represent the most visible cause of pollution on Earth. They

are present in the soil and in practically all river beds in inhabited areas, and they

accumulate in the sea. Of all plastic waste, a third ends up in soils or freshwater bodies.

That is why society needs to raise awareness about the problem of pollution generated

by plastic in our water.

In the first place, it is important to promote responsible consumption, that is, we

must rethink our consumption model, seeking to reduce and reuse plastics. Some

solutions proposed to eliminate the plastic waste that are more common, it can be to

start by taking our own bags to the stores, our cutlery to the office or the cup of tea or

coffee. Another option to reduce that figure is to choose to carry a reusable bottle,

which will mean that you do not have to resort to a plastic one more than when it is

essential, and thus you will avoid all unnecessary uses. In addition, it would be

important to avoid unnecessary excess wrapping, as is the case with supermarket

products, and to reduce the purchase of single-use plastics. Finally, it is essential that

the waste generated is not abandoned, but rather that it is deposited in the corresponding

container or bin for recycling.

In conclusion, excess plastic waste represents a problem worldwide, greatly

affecting our water sources. For this reason and because of the love we have for nature

and the environment, it is necessary to implement individual solutions that, although

they may seem insignificant, generate a positive change in this problem.
