WATER CYCLE
Background:
The earth is referred to as the blue planet – ¾ or 75% of the earth is covered with water.
Water is also known as the universal solvent.
Water can be in liquid form, as in oceans, seas, rivers, lakes, and other bodies of water. It can also be in a solid form
such as in glaciers and ice caps. Water can also be presented in water vapor, the invisible gas in the air that you take in as
you inhale.
The water on Earth is always recycled. It is used, returned to the environment and used over and over again.
Water Cycle or Hydrological Cycle is the continuous movement of water rising from the earth to sky and back to earth.
People perspire (sweat) and plants transpire. Transpiration is the process by which
plants lose water out of their leaves. Transpiration gives evaporation a bit of a hand in
getting the water vapor back up into the air.
2. Condensation. Water vapor in the air gets cold and changes back into liquid, forming clouds.
Dew is formed when water vapor comes into contact with cold
surfaces such as leaves and glass
3. Precipitation occurs when so much water has condensed that the air cannot hold it anymore. The
clouds get heavy and water falls back to the earth in the form of rain, hail, sleet or snow.
Some droplets fall on land and are absorbed by the ground, while others fall into bodies of
water and this process is called collection. The water cycle then starts all over again.
