Pathao is one of the biggest e-commerce businesses in Bangladesh which

provides online services to the customers; anywhere and everywhere. They
diversified themselves in two primary areas: delivery and logistic service, and
motor cycle taxi service. Being an online based business, Pathao has been highly
influenced by management information system.
Information system and organization has been highly integrated with each other.
Pathao can monitor their business progress, technical issue and employees’
behavior through information system. Pathao approximately has 500 freelance
drivers who serves on an average of three to four rides per day. They offer 24/7
customer service which means that customer can access to them at any possible
moment through Pathao app and their official website. GPS or google map helps
operational or service workers to track down the exact location of customers to
deliver food or to provide riding services and can also monitor the time taken for
each ride. Furthermore, customers can skim through the dynamic price range on
the website in order to obtain the best possible service at the lowest price. This
brought convenience to the customers as they do not need to move physically to
attain any desired services which reduces traffic congestion. Even, customers can
pay for their services online which reduces the time consumption.
Pathao developed mobile-friendly app that allows their customers to gain access
to a large number of platforms such as: website, computer, mobile and 24 hours
customer services. Websites act as a major communication tool for Pathao. They
can receive any quality feedbacks from their customers which could help senior
management to develop effective long-term strategic decision such as, primary
and secondary market research. Without appropriate feedback, senior
management will be unable to create forecast database for the expansion of the
business.
Information system indeed changes business culture dramatically. Previously,
businesses need to have a large number of employees to perform task; nowadays,
many tasks have been completed by information system. As mentioned above,
Pathao has approximately 500 freelance drivers nationally. It is difficult for the
management of the organization to keep in track of the workers manually. Thus,
information system allows human resource department to regulate and record
employees’ behavior and attract new labor force. Moreover, sales and marketing
department can track down customers demand and spending pattern through the
website for example, customer bill. This gives Pathao a general knowledge about
what the target audience is demanding about. This way, Pathao can offer the
customer the right service at the right price.
Communication within the organization became an easy task due to the vast
usage of information system. It makes decision making process a lot less time
consuming. Pathao runs its organization nationally which consist of thousands of
employees. For senior management, it is not possible to communicate with every
single employee. Hence, senior management can send emails to all the
department across the country which allows employees to receive the latest
information about the business. The distortion of original information from senior
management to operational management reduces a lot. Information systems
connects the lower-level management to the senior level management which
makes the lower-level management to feel more united.
Information system helps organization to manage its departments and units them
to work behind same objective. Pathao will not be able to survive in the rapid
changing market without an information system. This helps Pathao to develop a
unique culture within the organization that gives them a competitive advantage.
Pathao offers unique services which are able to redeem even from home. Hence,
information system plays a fundamental role in the industry.
Input is the raw data that from the business itself or from the external
environment. Pathao customers will input their order through the app which will
be send to the management of the organization. They will process this
information which will not be shown to the customers. Basically, the management
will calculate the total price and will update their stocks. Lastly, Pathao will send
sales receipts to the customers.
