Today's Education Differs From The Education Imparted Fifty Years Ago - One of The Main Reasons For Change Is The Emergence of Technology
one
of the main reasons for change is the emergence of technology. technology
has impacted almost every aspect of life today, including education. In medieval times,
books were rare and only an elite class had access to educational opportunities. Individuals
had to travel to centres of learning to get education. Traditionally, classrooms were relatively
isolated, and learning was limited within four walls and buildings.
Today Students can collaborate on group projects using technology-based tools such as
zoom calls and Google docs. The walls of the classrooms are no longer a barrier as
technology enables new ways of learning, communicating, and working collectively.
In its early stages the internet helped education system through a collection of text based
documents as encyclopaedia, Wikipedia without the capability to display images or video
files. With the advancement of technology, the internet continued to evolve. From text
documents to websites such as YouTube, Facebook, zoom, where students have a wide
variety of places to look up for information and supplements to their lessons
Now massive amounts of information (books, audio, images, videos) are available at one’s
fingertips through the Internet, and wide opportunities for formal learning are available .
Students can share what they are learning with students in other classrooms in other states
who are tracking the same expedition.
technology has also proved to be a helping hand for teachers who sometimes
find it hard to explain certain things within the boundaries of a physical
classroom. Now teachers are able to prepare their lessons in a more strategical
manner by including different types of text, activity models, and interactive
controls for students.
Initially the teachers were the primary source of information, and the learners passively
received it. However, because of the access to information and educational opportunity that
technology has enabled, in many classrooms today we see the teacher’s job has been
reduced as students take more responsibility for their own learning using technology to
gather relevant information. Schools and universities across the country are beginning to
redesign learning to enable this new model of education, foster more on interaction and
group work .For the stakeholders of education learnings are not limited to classroom
teachings now , it has broaden to usage of internet and usage of various options available
for the same topic.
The idea of group study has been improvised in the cyber world. Now, the
students don’t need to get together physically , online collaboration platforms
made things easy. There not only students can discuss and chat, but also share
documents and notes. This practice turns out to be a great option when we
are assigned a group project
With the pandemic , need for technology came into realisation of each and
every student across the globe, four walls classroom evolved to digital
classroom. Classes over video calls have given rise to flexible teaching and
learning.
They can be free to choose their method of learning, students will be able to
modify their learning process with tools they feel are necessary to them.
Students will learn with different devices, different programs and techniques
based on their own preference.
Changing solo learning phase to collaborate learning holds great potential for
students, Encouraging students to work together on a creative challenge, and
allowing them to reflect on the learnings they take from the exercise, will help
them better understand , students can learn new skills in collaborative learning
process and it will help to stay connected with the world
Education needs to evolve, so as to teach and prepare students for the needs of our future
workforce, and the skills needed to drive this continue to change. It’s important that schools forecast
and prioritize learning for those needs
