Background

In developing countries for rapid development of the economy there should be


proper mobilization of resources. Commercial bank plays very important role by
removing the habit of hoarding, developing the banking habit among the people, by
collecting the small scattered resources in bulk. Nowadays, there are different
commercial banks emerging to contribute in national economy by mobilizing
resources. The commercial banks utilize the collected resources by financing in
productive sector. One of the important source of collecting resources is deposits from
customers. Customers deposit funds in their own accounts. Customers make deposits
in the bank into different deposit accounts such as demand deposits (saving accounts,
current accounts), term deposit accounts, call deposit accounts. Deposits are also
referred as liability for the bank as the customers are provided with the right of
withdrawing their fund whenever they like. Customers deposit fund in bank to get
different facilities. By saving in the bank people can have the opportunity of earning
interest, avoid risks of theft and lost etc. Nowadays deposits are increasing day by day
in commercial banks because people are being aware about its importance. Deposits
are also main source of capital for lending to other customers. Domestic deposits
provides reliable source of funds for development. The deposited amount if not
withdrawn by depositors then it is utilized as an investments or loans to other
customers. This process is related to money supply and has several ramifications. The
amount of deposits can be increased by offering proper graded interest rate in
different types of deposits and improving different types of customer services. Bank
deposits are highly affected by the banking facilities, rate of interest on deposit,
national income, bank credit, deficit financing etc.

This study has been conducted by considering one bank as a sample to analyze
deposit.

Sanima bank commenced its operation in Dec 6, 2004 as a national level


development bank. On 2012, sanima bank received license from Nepal Rastra Bank to
function as “A” class commercial bank with its registered office at ‘Alakapuri’ Naxal
Kathmandu. It has 74 full fledged branches and one extension counter from all 7
provinces. This bank is committed to provide one window financial solution to the
different customer segments. Sanima bank limited has commenced its own remittance

product branded under brand name of “SANIMA XPRESS”. Its vision is to be trusted
and leading bank in Nepal. Sanima bank has been successful to establish itself as a
32nd commercial bank of Nepal.

Statement of problem
In our country, there is lack of banking habit among people. Many people are not
literate about the banking system and its importance. People living in village areas are
not familiar about the facilities of the bank and so they keep their money idle or give
them to other in seek of getting high interest. Banks also concentrates more on the city
areas to collect and distribute funds so that the villagers have to take loan from money
lender at a high rate of interest.

Objectives of the study


The main objective of this study is to analyze the deposit of Sanima bank. The
specific purpose of this study will be as follows:

 To analyze various deposit trend of Sanima bank limited.


 To analyses the cost of deposits.
 To find out the deposit mix.

Rationale
This study will help public to get general information about banking and deposit
principals covered by the bank. This study provides overall deposit system of Sanima
bank limited. It will also help to know the volume of deposits and investment of the
bank.

Literature review
[ CITATION Ngu18 \l 1033 ] examined whether there is a casual relationship between
bank loans and deposits in the Vietnamese banking system and the efficiency of the
use of loans and deposits by Vietnamese banks. Their finding suggested that bank
deposits have a positive significant impact on bank loans, but the reverse is not
significant

banking industry and identified opportunities for Eastern bank limited and concluded
that EBL should offer term deposit products as well as saving products with existing
products

marked by improvement in the capital base, asset quality and profitability

Methods
Research methodology is the procedures by which researchers go about their work of
describing, explaining and predicting phenomena. This section will deal with research
design, population and sample, data collection procedures, data presentation and data
analysis tools.

Research design
Research design refers to the strategy to integrate the different components of the
study in a logical way. In this study, analytical as well as descriptive research design
has been included. The annual report and financial statement of Sanima bank has been
used for analytical purpose. Ratio analysis and correlation analysis had been used for
analyzing data.

Population and sample


In our country, Nepal there are 28 commercial banks but it is impossible to study
about all of them so only one bank is considered for study. In this study the focus will
be on the analysis of deposits trend of Sanima bank limited.

Data collection procedures


In this study all the data collected is secondary in nature. The needed information and
data for the study has been collected from published and unpublished official record
of concerned banks journals, articles and related website. Annual report of Sanima
bank limited has also been used.

Data presentation
The data collected from different sources will be classified and tabulated in order. The
data collected will be also shown in diagrams i.e bar graph and pie chart.

Data analysis tools


For the research purpose following tools will be used in this study. They are:

 Financial tools
 Statistical tools

Limitations of the study


This study also has some limitations which are as follows:

 This study depends upon secondary data of concerned bank.


 Lack of time and resources in this study.
 Only five years observation from fiscal year 2069/70 to 2073/74 is analyzed.
 The literature review has been limited to very few articles and research work.
 Only the few financial and statistical tools are used for analyzing the data and
information.
