INTRODUCTION
What a great time to be a Godzilla fan! His 60th anniversary is rapidly approaching and one of
the most significant events for kaiju fans in the last few years has been the influx of new Godzilla
titles hitting your local comic book shops.

Fans hadn’t really seen the King of the Monsters in comic book form since the Dark Horse series
ended. But when IDW Publishing got their claws on the license for Godzilla, something amazing
happened... they were able to secure other Toho monsters! And we’re not talking about just a
couple, IDW’s roster is absolutely amazing. It includes the no-brainer kaiju like Mothra and
Rodan, but the roster also contained a ton of other popular Toho monsters: Titanosaurus,
Hedorah, Kumonga, Destoroyah, and even a personal favorite of mine... Battra!

One of the driving forces behind the decision to go after more than the “Big G” was Chris Mowry,
the Godzilla super-fan who sits in the back office of this particular comic publisher backed by his
shelves of radioactive monsters. Another diehard fan who was brought onboard the Godzilla
series is an artist who has been wowing other Godzilla fans with his artistic kaiju interpretations
for well over a decade, Matt Frank. While they have each worked their tails off on the preceding
titles, they were almost used sparingly. Chris writing an issue here, Matt used for retailer
incentive covers. These two are finally collaborating on this series, Godzilla: Rulers Of Earth.

Chris and Matt are bringing classic tropes of the Godzilla and kaiju genre to the pages of this
book, but with a fresh take that fits into the world IDW has established for Godzilla and the
legendary monsters from Toho Co., Ltd. Joining them in their effort is another fan-favorite artist,
Jeff Zornow. Bringing the series to life with their vibrant color work are industry veterans
Ronda Pattison and Priscilla Tramontano as well. For the fans that love these films, the kaiju are
characters and the creative team in this book treats them as such. Godzilla: Rulers Of Earth isn’t
just created by kaiju fans, it’s created for kaiju fans.

SCRIPT-TO-PAGE COMPARISON
ISSUE #1 - PAGE 10

PAGE 10: Five panels

PANEL ONE: Gigan is completely covered now and Kumonga is closing in

for the kill. Gigan is on his back, arms out, trapped in the webs… vulnerable.
His belly saw is covered by the webs.

1. ALIEN COMMANDER - CAPTION: “<Wait...>

PANEL TWO: Kumonga is on top of Gigan now, ready to deliver the

deathblow. Ready to sink those fangs into Gigan.

2. ALIEN COMMANDER - CAPTION: “<...for...>

PANEL THREE: Close on Kumonga’s face, its fangs dripping in anticipation.

We see his eight eyes fairly clearly here.

3. ALIEN COMMANDER - CAPTION: “<...IT!>”

PANEL FOUR: Kumonga’s eyes bulge from the searing pain of Gigan’s belly
saw activating right into Kumonga’s body. We only see Kumonga’s face
here, as the sound effect of the saw is what tells us what has happened.

4. SFX: BZZZZZZ SPLURCH

PANEL FIVE: Kumonga flees, leaving splotches of blood on the webbing.

We see Gigan’s belly saw covered in the Kumonga’s blood as well. One of
Kumonga’s legs is starting to fall into the canyon below.

5. SFX (Kumonga’s scream): SKREEEEEEE

SCRIPT-TO-PAGE COMPARISON
ISSUE #3 - PAGE 6
PAGE 6: Six panels.

Panel One: We see a large aircraft carrier, the USS GOLDSTEIN, at sea.
The sun is bright, and the seas are relatively calm.

1. CAPTION: USS GOLDSTEIN. PACIFIC OCEAN, 200 MILES FROM THE

CALIFORNIA COAST.

2. NARRATIVE CAPTION: The USS GOLDSTEIN, the last of the

supercarriers, built when mankind was at war with one another. Built before
the first monsters appeared.

3. NARRATIVE CAPTION: It still stands watch over U.S. shorelines,

protecting the millions that reside there. But out in the ocean...

Panel Two: We’re on the flight deck as the crew responds to the ship’s
alarm. On the deck, there are a number of planes.

4. NARRATIVE CAPTION: ...it is alone.

5. SFX (ship’s alarm): AROOOO AROOOO AROOOO

6. RADIO BALLOON (ship’s comms): All hands, prepare for battle. This is
not a drill!

Panel Three: Off of the side of the ship, Manda’s head emerges from the
water, and starts to go over the ship.

7. SAILOR (off-panel): Sighting! Starboard side! It’s huge!

Panel Four: We see a close up of the sailor, who is looking up towards us.
He’s covered in shadow, water dripping from above down onto him.

NO DIALOGUE

Panel Five: Manda has made a loop over the carrier, with his head starting
to surface on the same side as before. Basically, it’s starting to coil around
the carrier.

NO DIALOGUE

Panel Six: Manda continues to coil around the carrier, starting ever so
slightly to constrict around the great ship.

8. NARRATIVE CAPTION: Manda.
