Swim or Sink
There were several brothers in a small boat. While they were still in the mid-stream, the boat
capsized. All of them started to swim towards the riverbank. However, one of them seemed to make
small progress. “You’re a better swimmer than any of us. Why are you lagging behind?” asked his
younger brother.
“I have a thousand coins tied around my waist,” said the older brother.
“Why don’t you throw them away?” urged the others. The older brother made no answer.
He simply shook his head, although he was clearly in difficulty.
The others reached the shore and shouted to him: “Off with the coins! What’s the use of that
money when you are drowning?”
Still the older brother just shook his head. A few minutes later he drowned.
