work he needs to accomplish on the project. Which of the following documents contains detailed
descriptions of work packages?

A. WBS dictionary
B. Activity list
C. Project scope
D. Scope management plan

ii. During which part of the project management process is the project scope statement creep?
A. Initiating
B. Planning
C. Executing
D. Monitoring and controlling

iii. Most of the project risks will be identified during which risk management processes?
A. Perform Quantitative Risk Analysis and Identify Risks
B. Identify Risks and Monitor Risks
C. Perform Qualitative Risk Analysis and Monitor Risks
D. Identify Risks and Perform Qualitative Risk Analysis

iv. All the following arc tools and techniques of Control Quality except:
A. Inspection
D. Cost of quality
C. Histogram
D. Cause-and-effect diagram

v. Which estimating method tends to be most costly for creating a project cost estimate?
A. Bottom-up
B. Analogous

C. Parametric
D. 50/ 50

Part-B. Define the following.

i. Project’s Triple Constraint
Project triple constraints are Time, cost and scope. The project can only be successful if there
is balance in all three constraints because if one is neglected, it will ultimately affect others
and in result there can be delay or failure in project completion.

ii. Scope Creep

Scope creep is actually the changes and addition of objectives or task in project scope, without
analyzing its effects on the budget, time, resources and cost. Sometimes the scope creep
occurs if the project initial documents are not clear to the team members and lack of
communication.

iii. WBS
Work breakdown structure simply jot down or decomposes the tasks and deliverables are
required to complete a project. It ensures the quality control and quality assurance which leads
to improvements and better execution of project and it’s mainly important in time
management, resource allocation and cost estimation within the project.

iv. Project Management

Project management is incorporation of skills, tools and techniques in order to attain desired
outcomes or requirements within the defined criteria by sponsors and stakeholders. The
management includes in all five steps of project cycle; Initiating, Planning, Executing,
Monitoring & controlling and Closing.

v. Differentiate between Project and Operation

Projects are temporary setups to create a certain product or to provide services and it will be
ceased or closed once the objectives are achieved.
Whereas, operations are ongoing and permanent activities and task of organization to produce
same products and services.

Question 02

Part-A: You have a project to be completed in 2 years. The budget of the project is 50 millions Six
months have passed, and the schedule says that 50% of the work should be completed. What is the
project’s Planned Value (PV)?

Part-B: You have a project to be completed in 12 months and the budget of the project is 100,000 PKR.
Six months have passed and 60,000 PKR has been spent, but on closer review you find that only 40% of
the work has been completed so far. Find the project’s Schedule Variance (SV), and determine if you are
ahead of schedule or behind schedule.

Question 03
Draw a network diagram from the below given data, and then answer the following questions.

1. Find the Critical Path

2. Find the total duration of the Project Completion.
3. What is the float of activity D,E,F and G

Activity Name Preceding Activity Estimate in a Days

A 20
B A 10
C A 15
D B 10
E C 25
F B 13
G C 5
I G,D 27

MANUFACTURING SYSTEM
ATML is one the benchmark in textile quality and is export oriented business. It managing its
manufacturing very effectively and efficiently. In the past, there was no central department to plan and
control the total operations of the ATML. Recently, now it has established a central Production
Planning and Control (PPC) division. It is directly working under the supervision of Managing Director
(MD) of the ATML. It plans and prioritizes the manufacturing orders according to customer (market)
needs as received through marketing division. Before PPC, different departments used to change the
priority of running processes. This usually resulted in confusion and delay in manufacturing and lower
productivity.

Manufacturing Plan
ATML performs three major functions at Rawalpindi site, which are as follows:
 Yarn manufacturing (spinning)
 Fabric processing (print dying and bleaching)
 Stitching (house textile including bed wears and curtains)
PPC has developed its strategy according to the seven zones identified by the marketing division
(export/local) in which it operates. Priority of the zone is set by the marketing division through MD. PPC
then develop and manage (planning and control) all the manufacturing processes for such priority. The
production division prefers to go for long run production first as compared to short run production. This
increases their productivity / output due to less resetting / change over. However they have to follow the
MD policy of prioritization according to customer requirement. The PPC work in the following
sequential order:
 Set processing program according to the customer need identified through marketing division.
 Develop production program / plan and issue it through orders. This is normally a one-page
report, which highlights the requirement of all major production departments. Copy of such
program is issued to all concerned.
 Each production lot is coded with its lot number / job code for easy trace ability during production
for progress and afterward for correcting defects arises if any.

Production Progress
Progress of daily production is checked through daily status report. The reports include the
progress for PIECES (print, dying and bleaching), MADE UPS and local processing. The requisite
portion of this report is completed by concerned division and is available to MD at mid day.
Output
ATML has never missed its planned target and none of the customer order has been dropped due
to mismanagement of its operations. Even minor modifications of the customers are always
accommodated due to planned and smooth working of the ATML
The latest updating in technology is in the area of designing of new print, computerization, auto conning,
spinning and stitching, and power plant.

Please carry out review of ATML manufacturing system and quality performance and answer the
questions;
Q 1: Discuss the differentiating factors that contributed in achieving world class quality by
ATML?

Q2. What additional actions should be taken by ATML to excel its competitors in to other

Textile manufacturing companies in textile sector?

Q3: Comment on the term “Export Oriented” keeping in view the ATML performance for quality
excellence-

Q4: How ATML ASSURED its quality product and system through different means
