2. After viewing Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger,” how does this video inform your understanding of
“Roar”? In what ways does this song change your understanding of the song “Roar?

3. After viewing “We Are the Champions,” what are the connections between the previous songs?
What are the messages all three artists are trying to communicate?

Intertextuality- intertextuality is when a text ‘s meaning (story, book, article, song, video, movie) is
influenced by another text. Intertextual references can be subtle or obvious. The key idea is that
these intertextual references allow for a deeper understanding of the text.

“Intertextual thinking can also be looking at patterns of events across stories, or looking at how
authors have chosen to convey ideas about the same topic in different ways.”

For Homework:

Using the two scripts from Romeo and Juliet and Shakespeare in Love:

1) On the film script, underline the text that has been taken directly from Romeo and Juliet.
2) Look at the directions for action and say how these have been used to convey the relationship
between Viola de Lesseps and Will Shakespeare the playwright.
3) How would you use the camerawork in this scene to highlight the intimacy between two characters?
4) Write a brief description of the intertextuality of this scene.
