Unethical Practices of Coca-Cola Co.

Ethical crisis has experienced by a lot of companies and have resolved it in such ways
that stakeholders will not be greatly affected. Also maintaining their profitability, they think of
ways where it benefits the company and those involved. There are some companies that doesn’t
realize that at the expense of their profitability many unethical practices are being done. One
example is the Coca-Cola Corporation. This company is one of the biggest and longest running
business there is and they have faced a lot of criticism regarding unethical practices. The Kala
Dera case of 2004 where the community there experience rapid water shortage and it is to have
been caused by the bottling operations the Coca-Cola Co. started. As the company reached its
peak production, the community experienced intense water shortage. It is good news to have the
company at its peak but they should also realize how their actions are affecting the people living
in the area. Another is their ethical issue about racial discrimination. This issue is really sensitive
because to have unfair wages and work distribution just because of people of color is utter
disrespectful and discrimination. It is good to hear that the company made the effort of resolving
this issue through money settlement and thorough investigation but the fact that they did those
unethical practices would still somehow affect the company. Coca-Cola Co. should regularly
have assessments so that they would know the areas they lack in so that it may be improved.
They should improve their management and communication with their employees as well as
customers.
Unethical but Common Business Practices

In 2015, the Washington Ethics Resource Center stated that within the past year, almost
half of us witnessed some form of ethical misconduct in the workplace. Some of the most
common unethical behaviors include misuse of time, lying to employees, employee theft, and
violating internet policies. This behavior has been so common that a lot of companies have been
practicing it. It’s a good thing that some people don’t just leave it as is and report it to the higher
ups so that it can be resolved immediately. Since it is common it may be hard for people to be
refrained from doing so especially the behavior of violating internet policies. It may be hard to
be proven if employees are just surfing the internet and updating their social media accounts
instead of working. False advertising is also a common practice in the business world where it
was advertised as scientifically proven or guaranteed results. As companies cross the line
between truth and lies, they still manage to attain profit. As more and more unethical practice
arises, it occurred to me that there is really a need for companies to fix the areas they least excel
especially the managing of business and the employees. They should see to it that they conduct
regular meetings and assessments to remind managers and employees the unethical practices
some may not be aware of. If by any chance they did not know of such practices proves that they
are lacking and needs to be resolved quickly because it may affect the business’ profitability.
Majority may not pay any mind to this because a lot of people are doing it but it doesn’t mean
they should tolerate it. What is unethical should be corrected and resolved with reasonable
course of actions that not only benefit the company but the stakeholders as well.
