The Mona Lisa, painted by Leonardo Da Vinci in 16 th century, was reproduced by Marcel
Duchamp called the “L.H.O.O.Q.”. It is a cheap postcard reproduction of the Mona Lisa onto which
Duchamp drew a moustache and beard in pencil. It is a great representation of one of the features of
contemporary art which is the combination of past arts with the present.
This artwork is reflected by the increasing population of the LGBT community. Duchamp’s
artwork exhibited a masculinized female, introducing the theme of gender reversal, transgender, which
is now common to the modern society.
Performance
Burden’s artworks present a selection of exhibition. He has created a unique and powerful body
of work that has redefined the way we understand both performance and sculpture.
His artworks are done with high risk, which is opposite to the people today. In today’s era,
people are getting afraid to take risk, only a few does. Although some take risk, mostly are just small risk
that led to small impact in our lives.
Space
People often think of art as sketches, drawings, paintings etc., this artwork is a great example of
how art is perfected in all known fields and substances in the modern world.
Hybridity
The artwork is a composition of colorful cluster of stickers in the middle that formed a flat shape
that is a figure with their arms stretched in chains. It has a different background, a monotone which
contrasted with the multicolored collage.
Today’s generation has valued money and power over human life and conscience. War and
torture have been experienced in some parts of the globe. Gyatso’s artwork, Angel, works as an
internationally recognized symbol of warfare and vulnerability of humans to this global struggle.
Technology
The artwork is a photograph of people on their phone drawn over by Rae with fantastical beasts
emerging from their smartphones. This art is made through technology and is related to the current
generation of people.
This artwork is a great manifestation of how people are trapped by their smartphones. Almost
all the people today have smartphones which corrupted their brains and consumed all of their focus.
“How the camera phone changed photography”
Every day, technology has been advancing in some areas. It is developing faster and faster than
ever before. Innovations are popping each week and a huge development on the tech companies like
Apple Inc., and the Android Industries. These companies developed numerous varieties of products that
change the camera industry. According to Moore’s Law, the number of transistors on a computer chip
was doubling about 18-24 months. This law explains how fast computer chips, including smartphones,
developed in years and has been the basis of tracking development in the technology industry. Camera
and mobile phones were separated back in the day. They have different purposes and have unique
functions. Telephones were used to contact other people from further places. Cameras were used to
capture moments in life by pixelating them. These features though evolved due to more discoveries and
developments made by companies and industries in the later years. Developments like longer calls in
telephones and higher and higher pixel in cameras. The first cell phone with a built-in camera was
manufactured by Samsung and released in South Korea in June of 2000 (Hill, 2013). The built-in camera
was capable of taking 20 photos at 350,000-pixel resolution. To get the photo, you need to look it up on
the computer (Hill,2013). An argument relating to the first camera phone indicating that the first real
camera phone was produced by Sharp and released in Japan by J-Phone in November of 2000 It has a
lesser pixel resolution than the Samsung product with only 110,000-pixel resolution but allowed you to
send your photos electronically (Hill, 2013).
Smartphones have been part of our lives since their production. They are now considered by us
as one of our “essentials”, shifting from wants to needs. We use them in a large portion of our time,
shifting back and forth from task to using them. With the built-in camera, they have been used in
photography much more times now more than in the past. With camera specifications getting better
each year, we can experience a greater image quality and choose filters and effects that satisfy or looks
appealing in our eyes and those of other people. We, the Filipinos, love taking photographs. From infant,
our parents took images of us doing something for memory, and is this put into albums. Teens love
taking lots of selfies, solo pictures, and also with other people during events or a small hang out. The
adults and the elderly, also love to get a snap of photography. On every occasion (weddings, birthdays,
feasts, etc.) we always ask for a picture to capture the moments we had. These moments were captured
mostly with our smartphones because they are always with us and are easy and handy to carry. People
now take more pictures using smartphones than cameras. Apple Inc. has been widely known for its great
phones with stunning camera features and quality. With the development of these devices, more people
are getting into photography. Mastering all the skills needed and using them to capture moments that
attract the world.
LIFELONG LEARNING
1. Every day I encounter different events that may or may not change my life along with other set
of stuffs I must do, chores in particular, in everyday life. These has been part of my life since
early age and well soon continue as I grow older and older each day. These things sometimes
get boring in some point, some repeating each day or week, so I’ve used my creativity to make
them a bit fun and interacting. Doing chores with the music on the background makes it less
boring and more engaging, also with listing it in my to do list and checking them after their
complete, gives me a feeling of productivity and is so satisfying for me. I’ve also used my
creativity in things that I love to do, like writing poems and setting up my room to have less
clutter. I’ve also been creative in my daily and weekly habits that helped me better myself in
some ways.
