    Act I

    Sequencing Events

    Below is a list of events that occurred in Act I of the story. Put these in order by writing a 1 by the event
    that happened first, a 2 by the event that happened next, and continue until all the events are
    numbered. The first one has been done for you.

    _______ a. Duncan and his royal party arrive at Inverness.

    _______ b. Duncan announces that his son Malcolm will inherit the throne.

    _______ c. The three witches tell Macbeth that he shall be king.

    _______ d. Lady Macbeth receives a letter from her husband telling her of the witches’ strange
    prophecies.

    _______ e. The wounded captain describes the battle at which Macbeth and Banquo have saved
    Scotland.

    _______ f. The three witches gather for the first time to make plans for meeting Macbeth.

    _______ g. Duncan orders the execution of the Thane of Cawdor.

    _______ h. Macbeth suggests putting Duncan’s blood on the sleeping servants so that it will appear that
    they murdered the king.

    _______ i. Lady Macbeth decides that Duncan must die so her husband can be king.

    _______ j. Lady Macbeth accuses her husband of cowardice.
