November 14, 2009: National Child Awards on Bal Divas


Twenty-five children with exceptional skills and talent in various fields were given the National
Child Awards on Bal Divas, November 14,2009. The awarded children in the age group 4-15
years have shown exceptional achievements academics, art, culture and sports. The awards
include one Gold Medal with cash prize of Rs 20, 000 and a citation and 24 Silver Medal with

Nov 14 ,2009 : Sat Paul Mittal National Award 2009 : Bindeshwar Pathak
Social activist and founder of Sulabh International sanitation movement Bindeshwar Pathak was
Thursday awarded the Sat Paul Mittal NationalAward 2009 for services to humanity. Award
carries Rs.400,000 (Rs.4 lakh) in cash, a medal and a citation. •Bindeshwar Pathak is a Padma
Bhushan recipient from the Government of India.
Notes:

 Bindeshwar Pathak had received the Energy Globe Award, the Dubai International
Award for Best Practices, and the Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Award for Environment.
 He was also the winner of the 2009 Stockholm Water Prize.
 He was also recently honored by the Intergovernmental Renewable Energy Organization
at the United Nations headquarters in New York on June 12, 2009 for developing low
cost toilet technology to produce energy out of human excreta.

November 14, 2009: 'Africa's Best President' title: Jacob Zuma


South African President Jacob Zuma has been awarded the title of 'Best African President' for his
role in the country's struggle for liberation . The following people were fecilitated in the Africa
Consciousness Media Leadership Awards.

1. Afro-Pop legend Miriam Makeba was awarded the 'Great Daughter of Africa' for her
artistic role in addressing the challenges faced by the Africans during the colonial era.
2. The late First Lady of Nigeria, Stella Obasanjo, was honored with 'Best African First
Lady' of the Year.

number of Solar Home Lighting System (SLS): Aryavarta Grameen Bank
Aryavarta Grameen Bank (AGB) is chosen for the National Award for Commercial and RRBs
for financing the highest number of Solar Home Lighting System (SLS) during 2009-09.The
Award was instituted by USAID, WINROCK International and the Union Ministry of New and
Renewable Energy (MNRE).
Earlier Aryavarta Grameen Bank had won the prestigious ASHDEN Award also known as Green
Oscar,

November 17, 2009: Nirmal Gram awards 2009: 28 Block Panchayats and 2 District
Panchayats from Kerala, Karnataka, Mahrashtra and West Bengal
Twenty-eight Block Panchayats and two District Panchayats from Kerala, Karnataka, Mahrashtra
and West Bengal were felicitated on the occasion for achieving total sanitation in their respective
areas.

Those Panchayati Raj Institutions that have attained full sanitation coverage and completely
eliminated the practice of open defecation are awarded the prestigious Nirmal Gram Puraskar
every year. About 5,400 Gram Panchayats have qualified for Nirmal Gram Puraskar in their
respective states in 2009.

Dr Gullapalli N Rao, Founder-Chairman, LV Prasad Eye Institute has been conferred upon the
prestigious ''International Essilor Award for
outstanding contributions to Global Eye care and optometry'' by the American Academy of
Optometry. He had also receieved ''International Blindness Prevention Award'' from the
American Academy of Ophthalmology 2006.

November 6, 2009: Ms Shamim Mody honoured with Navleen Kumar award


Ms Shamim Mody, leader of the Shramik Adivasi Sanghatan and an Assistant Professor at
Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) has been presented with Navleen Kumar award for
her contribution to welfare of tribals, dalits and unorganized labourers in Betul district of
Madhya Pradesh. This award commeorates Ms Navleen Kumar, who became a martyr
fighting for the rights of tribals in the Vasai-Virar belt, in Maharastra.

Devika Periera a scientist from Sri Lanka has bagged the coveted 'Vestergaard Frandsen'
award in recognition of her pioneering research in studies on insecticide resistance in

Cooperation (SAARC) countries.
November 6, 2009 : Kalinga Prize : Prof Yash Pal
Professor Yash Pal has won the annual Kalinga Prize for the popularisation of science
along with a Vietnamese professor, a Tunisian expert in water
management and the organisation responsible for Spain's national park system. The award
was presented in Budapest, Hungary in the recently held World Science Forum. Co-winner
Trinh is a world-renowned astrophysicist who in 2004 discovered the youngest known
galaxy in the universe.
November 6, 2009: Lifetime achievement award at 11th Mumbai Film Festival - Amitabh
Bachchan
Amitabh Bachchan was felicitated with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 11th
Mumbai Film Festival on Thursday for completing 40 years in the film industry. "White
Lightnin" directed by Dominic Murphy was adjudged the best film at this festival. Greek
filmmaker Theo Angelopoulos was also honoured with a LifetimeAchievement award.

Director of Haryana Kala Parishad Usha Sharma has been awarded Lifetime Achievement

abroad. The award was conferred on her by the Haryana Governor on the occasion of 44th
Haryana Day on November 1.

November 3, 2009 : International Sikh Forum 'Sikh of the Year' award -Preneet Kaur
Preneet Kaur,union minister of state for external affairs has been chosen by International Sikh
Forum for 'Sikh of the Year' award for the year 2009 for her outstanding contributions to the
state of Punjab and Sikhs. The award has been earlier conferred upon former Army chief Gen J.
J. Singh and Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia.

November 3, 2009 : FIAPF Award - Yash Chopra


The FIAPF-Federation Internationale des Associations de Producteurs de Films (International
Federation of Film Producers Associations) based in Paris, created in 1933, is an organisation
composed with 31 member associations from 25 of the leading audio-visual production
countries. Yash Chopra has been awarded the FIAPF award for outstanding achievement in film
making at the Annual Asia Pacific Screen Awards, the regions highest accolade in films. The
award is the latest in the line of honours for Yash Chopra, who last month received the Asian
Filmmaker of
the Year Award at the Pusan International Film Festival in Korea. Yash Chopra also received an
award from President Pratibha Patil at the National Film Awards, where Yashraj Films Chak De
India got an award for Best Film providing wholesome family entertainment.
November 7, 2009 : Yale University's Leadership Award - Nandan Nilkeni
Nandan Nilekani who is chairman of India's Unique Identification Database Authority has
become the first Indian to receive Yale university's prestigious Legend in Leadership Award. The
Yale CEO Leadership Summit which brought together over 100 world-renowned business
leaders in New Delhi Nov 5-6 to discuss the theme of "Navigating the Global Oceans of
Opportunity for Indian Business.

November 10, 2009: Malaria awards to National Institute of Malaria Research Scientists.
The Delhi-based NIMR director Dr V K Dua was honoured with the Godrej Sara Lee Limited
award Rs one lakh for his phenomenal research on personal protection from mosquitto vectors
and deputy director at Roorkey Dr S K Sharma bagged Rs one lakh award for his outstanding
contribution to research vectors instituted by Biotech International Limited. Dr Neena Valecha of
the NIMR, specialist in pharmacology, was awarded Rs one lakh for the contribution on vector
diseses management, instituted by the Bhubaneswar-headquartered National Academy of Vector
Borne Diseases (NAVBD). A gold medal and a citation, also instituted by the NAVBD, was
bagged by Dr B N Nagpal of NIMR for his work on environment aspects of VB diseases,
particularly on ''attracticices'' in collaboration with the Defence Research Development
Establisment recently.

A three-day symposium, being attended by about 400 delegates from across the globe, was
organised by the NAVBD in collaboration with the Goa University.

November 5,2009: Moortidevi Award to Veerappa Moily


Union Law Minister and accomplished writer, Veerappa Moily, has been declared the winner of
the prestigious Moortidevi Award for his book Shri Ramayan Mahaniveshanam, which is
considered as the best Ramayana in Kannada after Kuvempu's. The Moortidevi Award is
considered the most prestigious literary award in the country after the Bharatiya Jnanpith. This
award is presented every year for a contemplative or creative work, which expresses, underlines
and illumines human values rooted in the broad vision of Indian philosophy and cultural
heritage.

2. Moily gets the 21st edition of the Moortidevi Award, while the 20th edition of the award

3. October 25, 2009: CDAC-ACCS Foundation Awards
CDAC-ACCS Foundation Award were instituted by the Advance Computing and
Communications Society. The 2009 winner of this award are Dr Raj Jain of Washington
University and Dr Anurag Kumar of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore . The awards
will be presented to them on December 14, 2009.
Dr Jain bagged award in recognition of his role in influencing the growth and impact of
Networking technology. Dr Kumar was selected for the award for his contributions to the
a nalysis, optimization and control techniques in communication networks.
October 25, 2009: Best Eco Tourism award - Chhattisgarh:
Chhattisgarh was awarded the Best Eco Tourism award for its outstanding performance
for promotion of eco tourism in the state. The award was given away to the Chhattisgarh
Tourism Board by the Union Minister of State for Tourism Sultan Ahmed at the ''5th
Hospitality India and Explore the World'' conference held in New Delhi.

"Globosport" of Mahesh Bupati Starts Film Awards


Globosport is Mahesh Bhupathi's advertisement company. It has started annual film
awards to honour South Indian artistes. Recently Soundarya Rajnikanth (She is daughter
of Rajnikanth and runs Ocher Studios that produced the animation film "Sultan: The
Warrior".) has joined hands with Mahesh Bhupathi for these awards.

October 26, 2009: 10th annual Greentech Environment Excellence Silver Award
10th annual Greentech Environment Excellence Silver Award for 2009 was conferred to
Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd (SJVNL) which owns and operates the 1,500-MW Nathpa-
Jhakri hydropower project in Himachal Pradesh. However the award goes to SJVNL's
412 MW Rampur project.

About the Award: The award has been instituted by non-profit organisation Greentech
Foundation -- based in California and New Delhi and is given in recognition of
outstanding performance in safety issues.

Clinton Global Citizen Award : Ruchira Gupta


Ruchira Gupta (Eminent journalist and social activist ) has been awarded with the Clinton
Global Citizen Award in New York recently in recognition of her efforts in combating
trafficking in women and children. She has been fighting for the cause of women for the
last 24 years aiming at combating trafficking through small self-help group structures like
Apne Aap, an NGO started by women in prostitution in the hetwadi / Kamatipura red
light area of Mumbai in 1998.
In addition to her work with Apne Aap, Ruchira provides policy support to the Indian
government, the UN and USAID. In 2008, Gupta addressed the UN General Assembly on
human trafficking and was awarded the Abolitionist Award at the UK House of Lords.

October 31, 2009: FAI Golden Jubilee Award


FAI Golden Jubilee Award are given by Fertilisation Association of India for outstanding
work in the field of Fertilizers. Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural
University, Hissar has bagged this prestigious award for outstanding research on
Integrated Nutrient Management.
October 31, 2009: Indira Gandhi national integration award
Balraj Puri is a Noted peace activist and journalist .
Balraj Puri is a Noted peace activist and journalist . He was conferred the 14th Indira Gandhi
Award for National Integration. This award was presented to him by Congress president Sonia
Gandhi in a function in New Delhi.
“Kashmir: Towards Insurgency” is a famous work of Puri.

1. He was key in reconciling many of the differences between first prime minister of India
Jawaharlal Nehru and late chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Sheikh Mohammed
Abdullah.
2. He also mediated the famous 1975 Abdullah-Indira accord.
3. Puri has been a freedom fighter, journalist and human rights activist.
4. He has written many books and articles on Jammu and Kashmir and the problems the
state faces.
5. Puri was conferred the Padma Bhushan in 2005, for his contribution in the field of
literature and education.
6. Puri participated in the Quit India movement when he was 14.
7. He organised student movements in Jammu in 1946 and later founded the Peace
Volunteer Corps in 1947 to work for preventing communal riots at the time of partition.
Puri has spent over 60 years in building peace in Jammu and Kashmir.
8. But his work was not confined to the state only.
9. His interventions in Punjab and in certain volatile parts of Uttar Pradesh have helped
defuse charged communal situations and paved the way for a dialogue and non-violent
conflict resolution.

October 23, National Safety Awards:


The Ministry of Labour and Employment, instituted the National Safety Awards (Mines) in the
year 1982-83 to recognize and encourage the exemplary performance for prevention of accidents
in mines. These awards were given away for the first time in the year 1984 for the contest years
1982 and 1983 and thereafter, regularly every year. The award scheme is operated by the
Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), Dhanbad.

October 23, 2009: David O Selznick honour (Life Time Acievement) to John Lasseter
John Lasseter , creator and director of 'Toy Story' is Hollywood animation stalwart. He has
received a lifetime achievement from the Producers Guild of America.He is the first animator to
receive the David O Selznick honour.

October 24, 2009: Osian's Cinefan Film Festival


Romanian film 'Hooked' was the first film to be screened in the 11th edition of the Osian's
Cinefan Film Festival.

1. Writer , song writer and director Gulzar was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement
Award.
2. Indian Film Khargosh, directed by Paresh Kamdar, 'Khargosh', won the awards for
Special Mention, Audience Award and for combining the real and the imaginary world
and its lyrical beauty of images.
3. 'The Long Night' of Syria scooping up the Best Film Award.

October 24, 2009: Nandi Film Awards 2008


Nandi Film Awards are confered by Andhra Pradesh Government. The Nandi Film Awards 2008
were declared in in 65 categories.

1. Telugu actor Ravi Teja was declared Best Actor for his lead role in ''Neninthele''.
2. Swathi was named the Best Actress for her performance in ''Asta Chemma.
3. Jagrlamudi Radhakrishna bagged the Best Director Award for making ''Gamyam,'' based
on Oscar winning movie 'Motorcyle Dairies'.
4. Comedian Brahmanandam bagged the Allu Ramalingaiah Award for his role in ''Ready''.
5. Sonu Sood was selected as Best Villan for his performance in ''Arundhati''.
6. Bharat was selected the Best Child Actor for his role in ''Ready'',
7. Divya Naresh won the Best Child Actress Award for her role in ''Arundhati''.
8. Alari Naresh, for his captivating performance in ''Gamyam,'' got the Best Supporting
Actor Award, while Actress Raksha won the Best Supporting Actress Award for her
impressive portrayal in ''Nachavule.''
9. Mukka Raja was named the Best Character Actor for his role in ''1940 Lo Oka Gramam.

October 21, 2009 : Presidential awards for Tamil scholars


President Prathiba announced the Presidential awards for Tamil scholars for the year 2005-06, 06-07
and 07-08 in recognition of their contributions in Classical Tamil. Prof Adigalasiriyar has been
selected for the 2005-06 Tholkappiyar award, while Tamil Scholar Goerge L Hart was chosen for the
Kural Peedam Award for 2006-07. R Asravendan, Y Manikandan, S Kalaimagal, Va Mu Se
Muthuramalinga Andavar and K Palanivelan were selected for the Young Scholarsaward for 2005-06
and S Chandra, Aranga Pari, Mu Elangovan. M Bhavani and R Kalaivani were chosen for the award
for the year 2006-07. The award for the year 2007-08 would be given to A Selvarasu, P Velmurugan,
A Manavalagan, S Chandrasekaran and S Simon John.
October 21, 2009: Legion de Honor to Dr Asha Pandey,
Dr Asha Pandey, Head of the Dramatics Department in Rajasthan University, has been conferred
with highest French civilian award Legion de Honor. She heads Centre for French and Francophone
Studies in the university, has been honoured for her contribution in expansion of French language.

Lata Mangeshkar, who is better known as the 'Nightingale of India', will be decorated with Insignia
of Officer de la Légion d'Honneur (Officer of the Legion of Honour) during an official ceremony
hosted by Mr. Jérôme Bonnafont, Ambassador of France to India, on 2nd December 2009, on the
occasion of the opening of the French Film Festival held from 2nd to 6th December in Mumbai and
part of the French cultural Festival "Bonjour India".

October 22, 2009: Dada Saheb Falke award to Manna Dey


President Pratibha Patil honoured eminent singer Manna Dey with the Dada Saheb Phalke Award,
the highest honour in Indian cinema. Dey, who received a standing ovation from the audience, was
felicitated with a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh, a shawl, and a golden lotus.

October 23, 2009: Lal Bahadur Shastri award - Sunil Mittal


Mr Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman and Group CEO of Bharti Enterprises was chosen for the prestigious
''Lal Bahadur Shastri NationalAward for Excellence in Public Administration, Academics and
Management. Earlier recipients of the award included Dr E Sreedharan, Dr M S Swaminathan, Dr
Naresh Trehan, Dr R A Mashelkar, Dr C P Srivastava, Ms Ela R Hatt, Mr N R Narayana Murthy, Mr
Sam Pitroda and Prof C K Prahlad. The nine-member Jury led by former Home Minister Shivraj Patil
in recognition of his quality business leadership chose him for this award to be presented on
December 15, 2009.

October 13, 2009:Right Livelihood Award or Alternate Nobel Awards: 2009


The Right Livelihood Award, established in 1980 by Jakob von Uexkull, is an award that is
presented annually, usually on 9 December, to honour those "working on practical and
exemplary solutions to the most urgent challenges facing the world today".

An international jury, invited by the five regular Right Livelihood Award board members,
decides the awards in such fields as environmental protection, human rights, sustainable
development, health, education, and peace.The prize money is shared among the winners,
usually numbering four, and is SEK2 million (US$310,000).

U.S. professors Elinor Ostrom and Oliver Williamson win Nobel Prize for economics. Ostrom
becomes the first woman to win the prize in its 40-year history They won the Prize for their work
on economics for work on how community institutions can prevent conflict.
October 9, 2009: Sourabh Sen being conferred the Udyog Rattan Award
Known for making the promise of renewable resources a reality in India and Africa, Mr. Sourabh
Sen, Co-Chairman of Astonfield Renewable Resources Ltd. has been conferred with the Udyog

The late Senator Edward Kennedy has been awarded the United Nations refugee agency's annual

Bharti Airtel Limited Transport Network bagged the first prize at CII’s 6th National Convention
on SIX SIGMA followed by SKF India Limited Bangalore and Whirlpool India Limited. The
companies were judged on the parameters like, customer impact, results achieved, sustaibility of

business.

October 26, 2009: City neurologist gets Dhanvantari award


Mumbai-based Dhanvantari Medical Foundation awarded the prestigious Dhanvantari award to
renowned neurologist Dr BS Singhal in recognition for his work in medical science. An
internationally-recognised neurologist, Dr Singhal is considered as the pioneer of modern
neurology in India and has immensely contributed to the development of the field in the past 48
years.

October 28, 2009: Scomi Bags Environmental Award In Kerala


Scomi Engineering Berhad has been awarded the Greentech Environment Excellence Silver
Award 2009 for adopting environmental friendly measures in its engineering sector. Scomi
Engineering, a subsidiary of Scomi Group, received the award at the Greentech 2009 Global
Environment Conference on "Climate Change on Risk, Challenges and Solutions"

October 20, 2009: Nehru Cup Hero Subrata Paul Named Player Of The Year
The AIFF (All India Football Federation) has declared Pune FC goalkeeper Subrata Paul as the
‘Player Of The Year’ at its annual general meeting in New Delhi. Paul also recieved Rs.5,00,000
as prize money.

October 16, 2009: SCOPE Awards 2009:


PM Manmohan Singh recently conferred IndianOil Corporation chairman Sarthak Behuria and S
K Roongta, head of steelmaker SAIL, the Scope Awards for contribution to the growth of public
sector and its management in their respective categories.

 Sarthak Behuria won the award in the individual category for 2006-07 on account of
excellence and outstanding contribution to PSU management.
 SK Roongta also got the award in the individual category. He also received the Gold
Trophy of SCOPE Award for Excellence and Outstanding Contribution to Public Sector
Management in the institutional category for 2006-07 and two MoU Excellence Awards
for 2007-08, a company release said.

The SCOPE Awards have been instituted by the Standing Conference of Public Enterprises, the
apex body of public enterprises in India, to recognise the contribution of public enterprises and to

October 7, 2009: Pride of Britain award to Jaswinder Sanghera


Jasvinder Sanghera, who fled from her home to escape from being forced into marriage at the
age of 15, was given the prestigious Pride of Britain award for her extraordinary achievements in
London. She is known for her vigorous campaign that led the British government to take
effective measures against forced marriages.

Legendary singer Manna Dey has been nominated for the Dada Saheb Phalke award for 2007
for lifetime contribution to Indian cinema.

The award, named after the father of Indian cinema Dada Saheb Phalke, is the highest honour in
Indian filmdom. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh, a Swarna Kamal and a shawl.

Asha Parekh was awarded the ‘Lachcho Mahraj puruskar’ for her contribution in the field of
dance and acting.

Who was Lachhu Maharaj:


Lachhu Maharaj (1901-1978) was an Indian dancer, a Kathak exponents in Lucknow. He
received extensive training from Pandit Bindadin Maharaj, his uncle and the court dancer of the
Nawab of Awadh, for nearly ten years. He also learnt the Pakhawaj, the Tabla and Hindustani
Classical vocal music. He shifted to Mumbai in the early days of developing bollywood which
helped him to bring Kathak to a far wider audience.

Lachhu Maharaj was acclaimed for the choreography of dance sequences in movies like Mahal,
Mughal-e-Azam and Pakeezah as well as his ballets like Goutam Buddha, Chandravali and
Bharatiya Kissan. He was also the founder Director of the Kathak Kendra started by the Uttar
Pradesh Government in Lucknow. Among many prestigious awards he won were the Presidents'
Award and the Sangeet Natak Academy Award.

August 12, 2009 : Stephen Hawking honoured with US' highest civilian award
Celebrated Cambridge-based scientist Stephen Hawking was honoured with the US' highest
civilian award — Presidential Award of Freedom — by president Barrack Obama.

About Stephen Hawkings :


He is a Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge University. In addition to scientific research,
Hawking has written three popular science books, including the bestseller 'A Brief History of
Time'. He was awarded the Medal of Freedom in recognition of these popular science
publications and for making his research accessible to all members of the public.

About the award: There are 16 honourees this year for the prestigious recognition.The recipients
are from varied fields ranging from politics to sports and medicine and were chosen for their
work as agents for change. The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest civilian award in
the US and aims to recognise individuals who have made an especially meritorious contribution
to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant
public or private endeavours.

Other recipients for this year's award include Muhammad Yunus, Desmond Tutu and Billy Jean
King.
Muhammad Yunus won the Nobel peace prize in 2006 for his role in poverty alleviation
thorough micro-finance schemes in Bangladesh.
Former Archbishop Tutu was a leading anti-apartheid activist in South Africa, and King was a
famous tennis player and has since been campaigning for gender equality in sports and other
areas of public life.

August 3, 2009: Ramon Magsaysay Awards 2009


The five winners of the Ramon Magasaysay Award 2009 , which are also called Nobel prize of
Asia are :

1. Ka Hsaw Wa of Myanmar, co-founder of EarthRights International, was recognised for


"dauntlessly pursuing non-violent yet effective channels of redress, exposure, and
education for the defence of human rights, the environment and democracy.
2. Deep Joshi of India: He has management and engineering degrees from the
Massachussets Institute of Technology, was cited for decades of development work in
rural India, and founding a non-profit organisation that recruits university graduates and
grooms them to do grassroots projects in poor communities. Joshi was the co-founder of
Professional Assistance for Development Action and now works as an independent
consultant for the NGO which works for rural poor, promoting self-help groups,
developing locally suitable economic activities, mobilising finances and introducing
systems to improve livelihoods of rural people.
3. Ma Jun, of China and a former journalist, was awarded for publicising environmental
issues in China, including naming over 10,000 companies violating emission standards.
4. Krisana Kraisintu of Thailand was recognised for her work in producing generic drugs
for HIV/AIDS victims, many times cheaper than the multiple pills from pharmaceutical
companies. She has worked both in Thailand and in sub-Saharan Africa.
5. Yu Xiaogang of China was given the award for raising concerns about dams in his
country and advocating social impact assessments in all such mega-infrastructure
projects.
6. Antonio Oposa Jr., of Philippines is an environmental activist and lawyer, was awarded
for helping protest abuse of marine eco-systems, including organising sea patrols to raid
boat operators engaged in illegal dynamite fishing.

July 29, 2009: Sushil Kumar, Vijender Singh , M. C. Mary Kom get Khel ratna Award
Government of India has decided to honour the Beijing Olympic Games bronze medal-winners
Sushil Kumar and Vijender Singh along with woman boxer M. C. Mary Kom with the Rajiv
Gandhi Khel Ratna award. The awards will be presented by the President, Partibha Patil, at the
Rashtrapati Bhawan, on August 29. Fromthis year 2009 onwards the award would be known by
the year in which it is awarded. Each of them gets Rs. 7.5 lakh, the enhanced cash component of
the award, apart from a medal and a citation.
