Shiny Hunt Gen 1
Shiny Hunt Gen 1
Shiny Hunt Gen 1
IMPORTANT NOTE: This guide is only for when you trade a pokemon from generation 1 games to
generation 2 games. The way the stats are calculated to be shiny in Sun and Moon is completely different,
please keep that in mind as you read.
EDIT: forgot one of the attack values for the shiny legendary birds
Hello, everyone! Luna here, and today I'm here to share my guide on hunting for shiny Pokemon,
specifically the legendaries, in generation one games (Red, Blue, Green and Yellow)!
The first thing you need to know about shiny hunting in generation one is that YOU CAN'T TELL IF THE
POKEMON IS SHINY BY LOOKING AT IT. You need to calculate it's stats according to the DVs (the first
and second generations equivalent of IVs), which are the following when a Pokemon is shiny:
HP: 0 or 8
Defense: 10
Speed: 10
Special: 10
NOTE: I highly recommend you do the missingno. glitch to multiply your master balls! Having a master ball
to catch each legendary immediately makes this process a whole lot quicker!
Before any of you ask: "can Mew be shiny using the glitch or the event?" The answer is NO. All Mew were
programmed to have the same DVs, and the DVs don't match up to create a shiny. So, no shiny Mew
unless you hack, guys. Sorry Mew :,(
I will never be shiny
Everyone's favorite psycho cat is up first! Now, in case you guys don't know, you don't have access to
Mewtwo until after you beat the elite four in the first generation. And once you have access to it, it is in
Cerulean Cave, and it will be level 70, which is great because the stats can be easily calculated with a level
this high! In order to have a shiny Mewtwo, it must have these stats when freshly caught:
Defense: 145
Speed: 201
Special: 234
If your freshly caught Mewtwo has these exact stats, congratulations, you have a shiny Mewtwo! Now onto
the next target:
Articuno! My personal favorite legendary of generation one! You can find Articuno deep within the Seafoam
Islands, which is to the right of Cinnabar Island. If you want a shiny Articuno, it must have these stats at
level 50:
Speed: 100
Special: 140
If your freshly caught Articuno has these stats, it's shiny! Next up is:
Zapdos! You can find Zapdos inside of the Power Plant, north of Lavender Town. In order to be shiny,
Zapdos must have these stats when caught at level 50:
Defense: 100
Speed: 115
Special: 140
These are the stats of a shiny Zapdos! If it has these stats when freshly caught, you have a shiny! Finally,
onto the last target:
Moltres! In generation one, you can find Moltres inside of Victory Road. In order to be shiny, it must have
these stats at level 50:
Defense: 105
Speed: 105
Special: 140
One last note before I close this blog: You can find any pokemon shiny in generation one (except Mew).
However, it's hard to tell unless you have the pokemon above level 30 with no battle experience at all.
Gaining EVs will screw up the stat calculations, so don't battle with the pokemon you want shiny! Again, I
recommend the missingno. glitch to multiply rare candies and master balls if you want to shiny hunt in these
games.
I hope this blog was helpful to you guys! Thanks for reading!
