A Common Noun refers to any person, animal place or thing. A common noun does
begin with a capital letter.
A Proper Noun refers to specific person group of people, animal, place or thing. A
proper noun begins with a capital letter.

Add –s to most nouns
Examples: Singular Plural
Typhoon – Typhoons
Planet – Planets
If a noun ends in s, sh, ch, x, or z add –es.
Examples: gas – gases dish – dishes beach – beaches
Fox – Foxes
If nouns ends in a consonant y, change y to I and add –es.
Examples: activity – activities story – stories
Bunny – Bunnies baby – babies
If a noun ends in y, preceded by a vowel, add –es.
Examples: toy – toys key – keys
tray – tray donkey – donkeys
For some nouns ending in f and fe, add –s; for others change f or fe to v and add –es.

chief – chiefs calf – calves

For most nouns ending in –o add –s
Examples: piano – pianos

For nouns with a vowel before the final –o, just add –s.

Examples of nouns ending in –o that are always spelled with –es in the plural

Some nouns have special plural forms. They are called Irregular Plurals.
