WEEK 1: Revision
There is a common saying that “He who fails to plan, plans to fail.”
A life not well planned is shattered and a wasted life. For one to have a good plan
there is need to have goals set.
There are two types of goals in man’s life, namely:
a. short term goals and
b. long term goals.
a. SHORT TERM GOALS: This is a goal to be achieved within a short period of time.
For examples, reading to pass Common Entrance Examination, saving pocket money in
order to buy something etc.
b. LONG TERM GOALS: This is a guide on how to achieve something in the nearest
future. These can also be regarded to as one’s future ambitions.
STEPS TO ACHIEVING GOALS
i. Ask god to help you achieve your goals.
ii. Make a list of your goals.
iii. Write how you intend to achieve your goals.
iv. Seek support of your family and friends.
v. Follow your time table strictly.
vi. Always check your progress on the set goal.
vii. Continue with these steps until you reach your goal.

Idleness means slothfulness or not wanting to work when there is work to be done.
When a person is not engaged in any constructive work he/she becomes a tool in the
Devil’s hands. A common saying is that an idle hand is the Devil’s workshop.
Paul in his letter to the believers in 2 Thessalonians 3:6-15 condemned the act
of idleness. He said “If a man will not work, let him not eat.”
Hard work brings success and prosperity upon our lives.
MEMORY VERSE: “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might: for there
is no work nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom in the grave whither thou goest.”
(Ecclesiastes 9:10)

2. What will be the end result of an idle man?

The child belongs to a family, church and society and as such the child has roles
to play in the family, the church and the society to which he belongs.
A child is to honour and respect his/her parents; as a member of a family, he/she
is to contribute to the growth of the family and uphold the integrity of the family
name.
The parents are to bring up the child in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
And train him/her up in the way he/she should go (Proverbs 22:6, Ephesians 6:4).
Parents are not to pamper their children and they should not provoke them to anger.
As a member of the society, the child is to seek for peace, rendering his duties
and obligation to the society. The society on the other hand should lay good examples
for the child to follow.
MEMORY VERSE: “Honour thy father and thy mother; which is the first
commandment with promise; that it may be well with thee and thou may live long on
the earth. (Ephesians 6:2-3)

succour them that are tempted.” (Hebrew 2:18)
The term ‘moderation’ means to be or stay within the limits of what people
generally consider to be reasonable. It also means not being extreme in all that one does.
THREE ASPECTS OF LIFE WHERE MODERATION IS NEEDED
As children of God and ambassadors for Christ, we need to show moderation in
these areas:
i. In our eating.
ii. In our drinking.
iii. In our dressing.
Daniel in the bible is an example of someone show exhibited constraint, self-
control and moderation. Daniel had all the opportunity to indulge in the king’s food
daily instead, he decided not to defile himself and God love him for it and elevated
him.
MEMORY VERSE: “Envying, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I

things will not inherit the kingdom of God.” (Galatians 5:21)
