Statement of Purpose

Applicant: Shahbaz Hassan


Subject: Master program in Micro and Nano Technology

Nowadays, science and technology is playing a vital role in people's lives. They have become a
dominant factor in the development of society. Therefore, many countries are striving to diversify
their economies through the development and application of new and advanced technologies like
the ones that operate on nano scale.

Nanotechnology allow people to create innovative nanostructured materials, devices and


mechanisms which will make a contribution to the improvement of people's lives and development
of the country's economics. Thus, the choice of nanotechnology as my field inspired by both my
interest in the natural phenomena as an engineer and by the excellent prospects it offers in the labor
market. Also as per ASME American society for mechanical engineers nanotechnology will leave
virtually no aspect of life untouched and is expected to be in widespread use by 2020.

I derive my goals of life from the environment in which I grew up. I have given the activities in
my life, the shape and form of my interests in things that I believe have become a part of myself.
I own the beliefs that a person should pursue activities that engage his mind in an authentic way
in which he determines the true potential of himself. I may not have the best mind but I am sure
that what I aspire to do, the motivation is unparalleled. whenever I write about my career or study
I cannot deny the role of my father. My father, who is an Electrical Engineer, has been my teacher,
my friend, my mentor and above all one of my earliest sources of inspiration for scientific and
engineering research. Having him has helped in the development of my intellectual and practical
skills.

I had the privilege of doing Bachelors of Engineering in Mechatronics at Air University Islamabad.
I learnt great skills that entails in the mechanical, electronics, computer and controls field,
understanding the concept and practicality of engineering concept. These technical skills made me
brilliant to cope with any type of difficulty in engineering field. This opened me up to how
Engineering plays a great role in building nations, and how this skill, if advanced in a great learning
environment, would really transform under developing nations like Pakistan. It is this fundamental
reason that I have decided to advance my Masters in your institution.

I have gathered relevant technical skills in AutoCAD, Solidworks andMs Office.I fully utilized
them when undertaking my project in university as well as my professional life. I am greatly
willing to advance my skills in object-oriented concepts and experience in developing more
concepts and designs.
I gained practical experience right after finishing my university in hydropower sector. I have
worked on many hydropower projects which includes design of hydraulic steel structures,
installation of hydro turbines, planning, implementation and supervision of projects through
collaboration of World Bank, Asian Development Bank and Pakhtunkhwa energy development
organization (PEDO) stakeholder’s involvement.

My major career goal is to get the new whole understanding of the technical concepts used to
develop sophisticated designs and gain as much experience as possible in this field.after
completion of my master studies when I come back to Pakistan, I will completely utilize my
knowledge in transforming Pakistan. This field really necessary for Pakistan to achieve its energy
development goals, I wish to be part of the team that helps my country get to where it needs to get.
I am passionate, hardworking, focused and driven by zeal—virtues that TU Ilmenau will find
greatly useful.

I intend to pursue a Master’s degree from Germany due its quality of education, competitive
research environment, well equipped labs, highly qualified staff and no tution fee. Participating in
Master’s program related to Micro and Nanotechnologies will allow me to develop myself
intellectually. I am amazed by the versatility of engineering and find a real satisfaction from
grasping new concepts. TU Ilmenau is the most exciting and best place to work. TU Ilmenau
broadens my perspective about career in engineering because the important things beside job are
continuous learning and following our passion. Collaborating with highly motivated people,
working with engineering teams and gathering expertise for scientific interest towards a common
goal is a golden chance. I look up to graduate studies in the department of Micro and
Nanotechnologies at your esteemed institution as an opening to develop my skills and give a
direction to my career and to further improve my core concepts. This program is once-in-a-lifetime
chance for me to enrich my engineering experience and to satisfy my thirst of knowledge.
