How to look after our Mental Health during COVID-19

Annoyed that you are stuck at home during this Lockdown?

Do you feel unworthy because you lost your job?
Are you taking out your frustration on your family members or friends?
COVID-19 Pandemic has not only effected our physical health but is also taking a toll on our Mental
Health.

Here are a few Tips & Tricks to maintain emotional balance during these turbulent times.

1. Find A Hobby: This Lockdown has given us a much-needed time out from the rush of our
daily lives. Spend 15 minutes daily with yourself doing what you have been craving for. It can
be as simple as a Breathing Exercise, tending to the pots in the garden, reading that book
you which is biting dust.

2. Early to bed & Early to Rise: The old adage of going to bed in a set time and getting up as
early as possible has proved its worth for many generations. Tucking into our bed at a
particular time gives our body enough hours to heal and shut out all the noises. Waking up
at the usual time of everyday life proven to be scientifically healthy.

3. Sweat it out: Nothing beats stress like doing exercise. A physical activity releases
neurotrophic proteins, which improve brain function and alleviate depression. Some easy
and long term exercises are: push ups, skipping the rope, squats etc. There are many apps
available which will guide you through the journey.

4. Decrease the Screen Time: Netflix, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc. are so easily available.
But directing all your time to just these could lead to a sedentary lifestyle. We can start by
cutting down our time that we spend watching movies and videos.

5. Practice Mindfulness: Mindfulness helps us to be able to handle mood swings, anxiety, panic
attacks and depression. It not only makes us happier but also helps us to be better equipped
to deal with changes in lifestyle.

6. Start Freelancing: If you have lost a job recently, you can start Working From Home on
various projects. Like taking online classes, content writing, designing and selling creative for
corporates, doing freelance business development etc.

7. Keep a diary: Penning down our thoughts at the end of the day helps clear our subconscious
mind. It also aids in sound sleep, because once we put down our worries and tensions on a
piece of paper, it makes us easy to fall asleep peacefully.

8. Seek Counselling: If our stomach is severely upset, we rush to a Doctor for help. Don’t we
all? So why not treat our mind with the same love and care? We don’t have to go through it
all alone. Many affordable counsellors are ready to provide online consultation to those who
are going through a rough patch and are not able to step out of the house. It is high time we
overcome the stigma of Mental Wellbeing to live a contented life. There is help available!
