TITLE: SOLENOID
/25
OBJECTIVES:

i. to identify the solenoid principle construction

ii. to identify the solenoid principle function
iii. to apply the solenoid in various circuit

APPARTUS: Livewire 1.11 Pro

PROCEDURE:

1. Draw the circuit shown in Fig. 1 using Livewire 1.11 Pro software.

Fig. 1
2. Insert the measuring tool of oscilloscope and graph as shown inFig.2.

Fig. 2.

3. Connect the oscilloscope with the circuit in Fig. 1 as shown in Fig. 3. Put in the graphoption.

Fig. 3.

4. Set the graph option as follow in fig. 4 by right click on the graph > properties>graph
properties.

5. Run the circuit and actuate the push switch. Observe the output by the graph of XSC1. Write
your observation. Draw/ attach the output voltage shown on the graph.

Based on my observations from the graph. when I press on the switch on livewire. this
graph is increasing. this is because the voltage value increases. But when I press the switch without
releasing it the graph shows 0 which is the red line on the graph and when I press and release the
switch simultaneously the graph shows up and down. This is because the soleriod storage power is cut
or the solenoid power supply has been closed.

6. Add a diode as shown in Fig. 5. Observe the output voltage shown on graph of XSC1. Write
the observation and attach the graph.

Fig. 5.

Based on my observations from this graph, when this circuit is placed diode, the graph shows a
difference compared to the graph without a diode. this graph shows the function of a diode which is to
transmit an electric current in one direction but prevent an electric current from the opposite direction.
Besides, this graph is generated when the switch is pressed. When the switch is released the graph does
not go up or down and the graph returns to 0 because the diode controls the direction of the current
flow. Also, this current flows in one direction and the current does not rise because it is blocked

7. Explain the difference between the output voltage of circuit in Fig. 1 and Fig. 5.
State the importance of the usage of diode in electromagnetism device.

The difference between figure 1 and figure 5 is that when releasing the switch, this shows the difference in
the total voltage current when the switch is released. Figure 1 shows the graph of total voltage flow above
the red line and figure 5 the graph shows the waves on the graph increase and decrease and again fall at 0.
This is because the diode controls the voltage current.

8. Conclude the solenoid operation during the switch open(off) and closed(on).

Solenoid switches are used to switch high power circuits on and off using a much smaller electrical
control signal to actuate the switching. As we see in this experiment, A solenoid has an
electromagnetically inductive coil around an iron core at the center called the plunger (E). At rest, it can
be open (off) and closed (on). In the de-energized state, a normally open valve is open and a normally
closed valve is closed. When current flows through the solenoid, the coil is energized and creates a
magnetic field.
