The key takeaways are that this pattern provides instructions to sew pillowcase pajamas using a single pillowcase as the fabric. It includes a size chart and details the printing, cutting, and sewing steps required to complete the project.

The steps to print and cut out the pattern are to print a test square at 100% scale, use the Adobe Acrobat layers to print only the needed size, lay out the pattern piece on the fabric with the arrow aligned to the grain, mark around the pattern with a pen, and cut out the piece including any notches.

The sewing instructions include pinning the front and back pieces with right sides together, sewing the front and back seams allowing 1cm for seam allowance, zigzagging the raw edges to finish, opening up the pants and sewing the front to the back crutch seam, and hemming the leg openings.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN
A few little pointers before you start can save you a lot of time and ink.
(a) You DO NOT NEED TO PRINT EVERYTHING! Save paper and ink by viewing making instructions on the screen.
This also allows you access to hyperlinks which will take you directly to online tutorials if you need them.
If you’d prefer to work with a paper copy of the instructions – simply print this out with the pattern tiles.
Refer the Contents Page for page numbers to print.
(b) PRINT THE TEST SQUARE BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE. Printing to 100% scale is critical.
Refer printing instructions below.
(c) Using the Adobe Acrobat LAYER OPTION allows you to print only the pattern size you need.
This makes your pattern simple to cut out and removes unwanted lines of other sizes. If you do not have
Adobe Acrobat you can download it for free at http://get.adobe.com/reader/
(d) READ THE PRINTING & SEWING INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE YOU BEGIN.
There are full instructions with diagrams.
(e) USE THE CORRECT SEAM ALLOWANCE. A seam allowance of 1cm (3/8”) is included within the pattern pieces.
(f) FINISHING SEAMS – Finish all raw edges with a zig-zag or overlocker (serger) stitch. You might like to check
out our Tips & Tricks Tutorial on Finishing Seams for techniques to make your garment look more professional
and to reduce fraying of exposed raw edges.
(g) STITCH SIZE and TENSION – unless otherwise stated you should use a medium length straight stitch with
even tension (ie, stitch length 2.5)
(h) IRONING - Press seams open with fingers and iron on the WRONG side with iron set at a low temperature
setting. We do not recommend pressing on the right side of the fabric as this can mark or stain.

PRINTING YOUR PATTERN

The most important thing is to print your pattern to scale (actual size).
Diagram a - printer settings
A. CHECK YOUR DEFAULT PRINTER SETTINGS:
(a) Make sure the paper in your printer is snug against the paper guides to ensure
it does not move during the printing process
(b) Check your printer properties to ensure the following settings:
Print Actual Size (scale = 100%)

B. PRINT THE TEST SQUARE

Print the TEST SQUARES on PAGE 8 of this document. Refer to diagram A
above for help on how to print selected page(s). This should be the very first
thing you print. There are 2 test squares - one in centimetres and one in inches.
Once printed, check the scale by using a ruler to measure one of the test squares.
The square should measure exactly if your printer settings are correct.
If the test square does not measure correctly, please check your printer
settings and try again.

C. SELECT THE PATTERN SIZE from the Layers Menu:

Your PDF Sewing Pattern comes in all sizes. Each size is on a different layer within the PDF document.
You will need to select the individual layer corresponding to the pattern size you want to print. If more than one
size layer is selected, the sizes will print on top of each other and be very confusing. Having separate layers allows
you to print only your size and to reserve other sizes for other projects.

To print your size:

(a) Open your PDF document in Adobe
(b) Click the “View” from the top menu Bar.
(c) Select “Show/Hide” and then “Navigate Panes” and make sure the LAYERS option is checked. T
The LAYERS panel icon should now be visible on the left side of your screen.

www.SewingRevival.com Page|3
(d) Select the LAYERS icon to display all the layers available in the PDF
document. You will note there are size layers and an instructions layer.
Ensure ONLY the size layer that you want to print AND the “Instructions”
Layer are visible.
(e) Scroll through the document to check that the correct size and instructions
are visible.
(f) Now you are ready to print.

D. CHECK THE PAPER IN THE PRINTER TRAY

Make sure the paper in your printer is snug against the paper guides to ensure it does not move during the printing process.

E. PRINTING THE PATTERN TILES

With the PDF pattern file still open in Adobe Reader:
i. Ensure the Scale is set at 100% Actual Size
ii. Check you have the layer chosen for the size you want to print.
iii. Select the page numbers relating to the Pattern Tiles for the SIZE OPTION.
There is no need to print everything.

> To print SEWING INSTRUCTIONS (select page 6 & 7) if you do not want to view these on line.

> To print PATTERN TILES (refer the tiles you need depending on your size and the Pattern Tile Chart below).

COMPILING YOUR PATTERN

LAYING OUT & TAPING UP THE PATTERN TILES
To fit the pattern tiles together you will need to:
1. Cut off the bottom and right-hand side edges (only) along the tile edge line
(as shown in the diagram to the right).
2. Align the tiles in the order shown in the TILE LAYOUT DIAGRAMS below.
Order the tiles left to right, aligning the triangles so when matched, they form
a diamond shape. But the frames up against each other rather than
overlapping them.
3. Tape the tiles together with Sellotape. You might like to place paper weights
on them to hold them in place while you tape them. It is not necessary to place
tape all the way along the join. Just place tape at intervals but especially where
the pattern pieces join at the edges.

You will find detailed instructions on how to place and tape your pattern together at
www.SewingRevival.com/pages/printing-your-pattern.

CUTTING OUT YOUR PATTERN

Cut around the outside edge of the paper pattern piece. The solid line is the cutting edge (and will become the edge of your
fabric piece). The dotted line is the seam (1 cm or 3/8”). Make sure you mark the notches by cutting around them outwards
(they are used to match up fabric when you begin sewing).

LAYING OUT & CUTTING YOUR FABRIC

1. Lay your pillowcase (or other fabric) out flat and place the paper pattern piece on top.
CHECK that the ARROW on your paper pattern align with the main direction of the fabric.
If you are new to this you might want to check out tips and tricks on the website.
2. When you are happy with your layout, place paper weights on the paper (or pin in place) and then mark the outline of all the
pattern piece onto the fabric with a thin permanent marker pen or fabric chalk.
3. Remove the paper pattern and cut the piece out of the fabric with sharp fabric scissors. Remember to cut the notches.
Notches are important makers which help you line up fabric pieces before you sew them in place. It is a personal preference
whether you cut your notches outwards (away from the seamline) or inwards. If you choose to cut your notch inwards be
very careful not to cut as far as the seam or you will have a hole in your garment. For beginner sewers we recommend
cutting the notch outwards.

LAYOUT INSTRUCTIONS

1. Lay the pattern piece on top of the

pattern is in line with the direction of the
fabric thread.

2. Mark around the outside of the pattern

piece with a pen.

3. Cut out the shape

ribbon or lace to the hems of the legs. c
