KABAYANIHAN
• What does the word ‘ Hero’ mean to you?
• BAYANI and KABAYANIHAN
• A hero or bayani in Tagalog is somebody that saves
lives.
• The essential trait of a hero is BRAVERY.

• Being called a hero does not require sacrificing his/her life for the cause or for
the country.
• Simple acts of serving people are acts of “KABAYANIHAN” and that makes a
person “BAYANI” at present.
• Our country’s national hero Dr. Jose Rizal was a hero. Why?
• He fought and sacrificed himself for the freedom of our nation.
• He was brave enough to write and express his thoughts against the abusive
• Spanish Colonials that enlightened the minds of the Filipino people, resulting
in the Philippine Revolution and later acquiring our independence and
freedom.
• His novels inspired and awakened the sleeping nationalism of the Filipino
people. How? In both novels, Rizal harshly criticized the Spanish colonial rule
in the country and exposed the ills of Philippine society at that time. Most of
his writings, both in his essays and editorials, centered on individual rights and
freedom, specifically for the Filipino people.
