London Transport route and allocation changes 4 September 1982

The changes implemented on 4 September 1982 (originally intended for 31 July) ...

The rerouting of the 22A in the Wapping area is attributed to this date but no one really knows when it
happened. It is not mentioned in the TLBs of the time nor in REV.82, but mention is eventually made in
TLB 237 (May 1984) where the change is described as occurring ‘possibly as long ago as September
1982’ and long-term roadworks outside Wapping Station is suggested as a possible reason. Colin Stannard
goes on to ask if this change is a permanent feature, a question that (as far as I know) is never answered in
TLB, but to which the answer we now know to be yes. REV.84 quotes this change (dated ‘September’) as
having been missed out of REV.82. Bus Map No. 1 1982 (print code 282) shows the old routing, as do the
North-East and South-East quadrant bubblegraph maps dated 23.7.83 and the London Wide Bus Map (No.
1 1984) dated 14.4.84. The first map to show the new route is the London Wide Bus Map for November
1984 No. 2 1984) dated 27.10.84, so perhaps it happened sometime in 1984.

There is no mention anywhere of the introduction of an evening service on this route (W2), but it is clear
from the timetable and from the Allocation of Scheduled Buses that an evening service was introduced
between Turnpike Lane Station and Winchmore Hill (Green Dragon Lane) on this date (5.11.88).
