1 Introduction
LGE WLL Data Service enables wireless data communications through the WLL phone.
By simply attaching the handset to any desktop PC, the user can perform circuit or
packet data services including various tasks such as data transmission, Internet
browsing, and facsimile transmission.

2 Components
 A USB cable or Serial Cable

 A CD_ROM containing a LG USB Modem Driver.

(If you use Serial Cable, USB driver is not needed)

 Please make sure that these components are present before you begin the
service. If any missing or damage of components is found, contact our authorized
LGE distributor immediately.

 This software is developed for the MS Windows 98, 2000, XP

3 Installation
3.1 Installation USB CDMA modem driver
 Installation a USB CDMA modem is needed before doing manually operated
setting (4.2.1)

a. Make sure that the WLL phone and PC are both turned on

b. Install USB Driver using included CD_ROM. Insert CD_ROM into CD_ROM Driver.
And Run ‘LGUSBModemDriver.exe’. Provide ‘LGUsbModemDriver_InstallGuide’ in
CD_ROM.

c. Set data port to USB on WLL phone.

1). Select “Menu” (On soft menu)

2). Select “6. Settings”

3). Select “3. Phone”

4). Select “2. Data Settings”

5). Select “2. Data Baud”

6). Select “1. USB”

d. Connect the USB cable first to the WLL Phone’s USB port, then to an available PC’s
USB port

e. This message window will appear, informing you that new hardware has been found

f. Click ‘next’

g. Select "Search for the best driver for your device. [Recommended]", and click ‘Next’.

h. Check off “Specify a location:”

Use the ‘Browse’ to select the folder where USB driver files exist

i. Select the “lgusbmodem.INF” item in that folder. Click ‘next’

j. If a message, "Windows has finished installing ….”, is displayed, Click ‘Finish’.

k. Once this driver is installed, the PC should automatically sense the new device and
start the second Plug and Play installation for the specific USB CDMA modem.

l. Select "Search for the best driver for your device.[Recommended]", and click ‘Next’.

m. Check off “Specify a location:” use the ‘Browse’ to select the folder where USB driver
files exist

n. Select the “lgusbmodem.INF” item in that folder, Click next

o. Click ‘Finish’

4 Usage of Various Data Services (Windows 98)


LGE WLL Data Service support circuit data services, such as BBS service, fax service,
and Internet service by using a circuit connection, and packet data service such as
Internet service by using a packet connection.

4.1 BBS service or ‘1 to 1 connection’ with a common communication


emulator such as hyper terminal
4.1.1 Set up Program
In case of using Hyper terminal as communication emulator.

a. Select Hyper terminal.

Start => Accessories => Communications => Hyper Terminal

b. Execute Hypertrm.

c.Enter the connection name and choose icon.

d. Enter the connection phone number and click “OK”

Be careful about “Connect using” field, Select proper device you using.

4.1.2 Configuration
a. Select a communication port where LG USB MODEM is installed: If you get "OK"
message after commanding "AT" in the terminal, you've done right selection.

b. Setup port configuration like below.

- Baud rate: don’t care

- Data bits: 8

- Parity: None

- Stop bits: 1

- Flow control: Hardware flow control

c. Set data port to USB on WLL phone.

4.1.3 Usage
a. Called party (in the ‘1 to 1 connection’) :

- Change mode to a receiving mode for the data service by commanding

“AT$LDR=1”.

- If you want manual answer, command “ATA” to answer for a ring.

- Otherwise, set auto answering ring count N by commanding “ATS0=N”

- Just wait for dozens of seconds until a message, “CONNECT”, is displayed.

b. Calling party :

- Connect to a BBS system or your partner by commanding “ATDT


phone_number”.

- Just wait for dozens of seconds until a message, “CONNECT”, is displayed.

c. To end a call :

- Hook off or

- Return to a command mode by typing “+++”, and command “ATH” after a


message, ”OK”.

4.2 Packet Service


4.2.1 Manually operated Setting
4.2.1.1 Configuration a connection environment for the Internet service
a. Select ‘Start -> Program -> Accessories -> Communications -> Dial-Up Networking
-> Make New Connection’

b. Input a name for the computer you are dialing, select the modem, “LG CDMA USB
Modem[VCOMM]”, installed above, and press ‘Configure…’.

c. Select the port connected to WLL phone as a communications port.

The phone is connected to the USB bus. Independent of Maximum speed value, it can
hit the 12Mbps shared by all other devices. This Maximum speed item doesn’t have
any effect on communication between the Phone and PC. So you don’t have to
specify the Maximum speed.

d. Select ‘Connection’, and setup ‘Connection preferences’ like the right figure. Then,
press ‘Advanced’.

e. Input commands (for example, AT+CRM, AT$LGPKT, AT$LGQNC), that inform the
WLL phone of the interface protocol that will be used. And press ‘OK’.

You need to combine commands for high speed packet data service.

4.2.1.2 Dialing and getting an Internet service started


a. Open the new connection made above. After filling in a user id, password and the
phone number of the service provider (some of those service providers don’t care the
phone number), press ‘Connect’.

4.3 FAX Service


For PC FAX Service, You should purchase a commercial PC FAX Program and use H/W
Flow control.

4.3.1 Sending FAX


When setting up a PC FAX Application, you should choose a modem as LG USB CDMA
Modem.

4.3.2 Receiving FAX


To receive Fax, You Should Change mode to receiving mode for the FAX service

LGE WLL Data Service support circuit data services, such as BBS service, fax service,
and Internet service by using a circuit connection, and packet data service such as

5.1 BBS service or ‘1 to 1 connection’ with a common communication

5.1.1 Set up Program
In case of using Hyper terminal as communication emulator.

f. Fill the location information.

5.1.2 Configuration

5.2 Packet Service


5.2.1 Manually operated Setting
5.2.1.1 Configuration a connection environment for the internet service
a. Select ‘Start -> Setting -> Control Panel -> Phone and Modem options’

b. Input a name for the computer you are dialing, select the modem, “LGE CDMA USB
Modem”, installed above, and press ‘Properties…’.

c. Select the port connected to WLL phone as a communications port.

The phone is connected to the USB bus. Independent of Maximum speed value it can hit

d. Select ‘Connection Port Speed ’, and press ‘Advanced’. Input commands (for
example, AT+CRM, $LGPKT, AT$LGQNC) that inform the WLL phone of the interface
protocol that will be used. And press ‘OK’. You need to combine commands for high
speed packet data service.

5.2.1.2 Dialing and getting an Internet service started


a. Open the new connection made above.

Select ‘Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Communications -> Network and Dial-up
Connections’. And ‘Make New Connection’ Double Click

b. Select Network Connection Type.

c. After filling in the phone number of the service provider (some of those service
providers don’t care the phone number), press ‘Next’.

d. You are input to special name for this connection (Ex. WLL Modem Telecomm), and
Press Finish.

e. Finally, You are input in a user name, password and the dial number of the service
provider. And press ‘Dial’

f. Check your username and password in service provider system.

g. If you are Member in service provider, connected in Packet Data Service.

And Start in Internet Service or Packet Service.

h. Repeatedly, if you want connect in Data Service, Double click ‘Dial-up Connection’
(you made special name above)

5.3 FAX Service


For PC FAX Service, You should purchase a commercial PC FAX Program and use H/W
