TOURISM IN CALIFORNIA.
California is a state in the western United States, bordering the Pacific Ocean. California hosts
millions of visitors each year, and many Californians are employed in providing for these
tourists. Tourist centres include cities such as Los Angeles, San Diego, Fresno and San Francisco.
The major tourist attractions include Death Valley; the lowest point in USA and Mount Whitney,
Mount San Antonio, Sierra Nevada mountains , Santa Monica Mountains, Rivers like
Sacramento and San Joaquin , Redwood National Park, Yosemite National Park, giant dams like
Shasta Dam on Sacramento River, friant dam, large scale irrigation projects like central valley
irrigation project, Imperial valley irrigation scheme, varied climate ranging from cool to mild
winters, California Aqueduct , high-tech industries in the Silicon Valley, aircraft industries in Los
Angeles and San Diego, movie industries at Hollywood, palm trees in Los Angeles , Los Angeles
County Museum of Art, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, annual festivals (Rose Parade,
Fifth of May which commemorates the expulsion of the French from Mexico in 1862, Pacific
Ocean beaches, amusement parks such as Knott's Berry Farm, Golden Gate bridge in San
Francisco.

high standards of living and leisure loving and can spend on tourism leading to the

inland waterways, air transport etc. These help in transporting tourists to different

most impressive bridges in the world also attract tourists for viewing.

capital resources have enabled extensive advertising of the country's tourist potentials,
establishment of modern tourist infrastructure.
9. The favorable government policy to tourism has promoted the tourism sector. The
American government promotes private investment in tourist infrastructure like hotels,
spa resorts such as Disney wonderlands. It also engages in worldwide advertising of the
tourist potentials.
10. Political stability has led to large influx of tourists from Europe, Canada, Japan, China,
Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Israel as well as attracting domestic and foreign investment in the
tourist infrastructure.
11. The excellent accommodation facilities like camping sites, health resorts, lodges, and
hotels, chalets , holiday apartments. These luxury hotels state of the art facilities banking
facilities, glittering gambling casinos, gift shops, private dining rooms, superior
international cuisine, executive rooms, swimming pools, conference rooms and business
centres such as Treasure Island Hotel in California
12. The presence of well-organized travel and tour agencies. These provide efficient services to
the tourists such as booking hotels, processing visas, arranging charter flights

by the state governments and private sector had led to development of tourism.

Blacks and other migrants in the different parts of the country have different unique
traditional dances, languages, history which attract tourists interested in cultural and

guides has promoted tourism industry. The American people are a mixture of different
races and therefore tend to be tolerant of visitors from diverse backgrounds. This has
attracted tourists from various countries because of the warm hospitality displayed by
Americans
17. The multiplicity of major international languages has boosted tourism industry. This is due
to the diverse origins of the American people hence all major international languages are
widely spoken in the country like English, French, German, Italian, Arabic, Spanish, Chinese,
Yiddish, Greek etc. This has attracted tourists from different countries due to easy
communication and efficient delivery of services.
18. The high standards of living/affluence of the Americans especially the Jews, Hindus, Irish
and many others has led to high domestic tourism. This has enabled various tourist
activities throughout the year.
19. High levels of modern technology leading to high levels of industrialization. The aerospace
industries, nuclear industries, film industries and other sophisticate industries attract many
visitors for research.
20. The presence of historical sites and antiquities such as Death valley, san Diego museum,
the Rock art museum, Oakland museum.
21. Efficient banking system that facilitates quick conversion of currencies, money transfers,
provide financial assistance for the development of modern tourist infrastructure like
hotels, modern highways like the Standard Chartered bank.
22. Presence of diversified economic activities like industrialization with industries like aircraft,
engineering , food processing, large scale irrigation projects along the central valley, dams
as well as canals and aqueducts like Delta-mendota canal, all American canal, California
aqueduct , Colorado aqueduct.

24. Presence of large mineral deposits especially oil mining and natural gas at Los Angeles and
