throughout the following sections (Essay to be addressed in the third person) APA format

Introduction: An introduction to the essay ~ summarises what you are going to write about in your
essay – COPY INTRODUCTION STATEMENT AS THE INTRODUCTION

 This essay will explore cannabis use as a health issue and will discuss the health promotion
activity recently conducted to raise awareness. The paper will include an assessment of
health needs based on the demographics and epidemiology of cannabis use. This will lead to
the selection of a specific target group, explaining why health promotion is needed for this
group. Likewise, it will discuss the essential factors, relevant policies, and Bradshaw's model
of needs (1972). Nonetheless, the paper will discuss the essential factors, relevant policies
and Bradshaw's taxonomy of needs (1972). Also, it will explain why the educational
approach was chosen, and it will examine the strength and limitations of this approach.
Finally, it will evaluate the resources used, the data collected and will consider possible
improvements to the health promotion activity.

 Why is Cannabis misuse an important public health issue- what evidence is there to support this? Define
what an Assessment of Health Need is and why this is important- Mention that 147 million worldwide have
used cannabis (Holm et al., 2016) & it have been reported that 74 million Europeans are said to have used
cannabis in their lives (Holm, (Holme al., 2016). Mention 1 million of the Europeans who tried cannabis were
young adults aged between 16- 24 years (Crime Survey of England and Wales, 2018)

 Identify your target group from the statistics discussed with explanation of why health promotion is required
 State that your target group is young adults aged between 16- 24 years old
 Explain why young adults 16-24 is your target group – mention that peer pressure form people of similar
ages can cause young people want use cannabis for recreational purposes (Gans, 2020). – mention it is
normalised in young adult culture and social bubble to use cannabis- what evidence is behind is? – make a
link to higher crime rates in young adults using recreational drugs than in other age groups

 Integrate costs and implications for the NHS


 Mention that incidents of cannabis misuse in young adults aged 16-24 years have financial implications for
the NHS. There are no current figures on the costs of treating cannabis misuse in the NHS; however, in 2013-
14, the estimated annual cost of treating drug misuse was around £500 million (National Treatment Agency,
2014)

 Discuss policies relevant to your Health Promotion Activity - include National, global or local policies.

 one large poster displaying consequences of using cannabis

 Discuss any improvements that could have made to improve the health message of your health
promotion activity
 Analyse the role of the health promoter and link to Tannahill model and research
 Discuss where your health activity could be promoted in practice or in the community- consider as
a student adult nurse where you would go i.e youth clubs, colleges etc
