NTSE Books
The NTSE syllabus for both Stage 1 and Stage 2 is same. Students must have a thorough knowledge of the
NTSE syllabus for each of the sections – MAT and SAT. Once you get a clear idea about the complete NTSE
syllabus, choosing the right books and using them becomes easier.
As NTSE is conducted by NCERT, the NCERT textbooks of the respective subjects, especially NCERT
Science and NCERT Mathematics books should be your Bible.
It is to be noted that certain chapters and concepts of Class 9 syllabus too are included in NTSE syllabus.
Hence, along with the NCERT textbooks of Class 10, students will have to refer to the NCERT textbooks of
Class 9 as well, for those particular chapters and concepts.
For Science, i.e. Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, the NCERT textbooks of both Class 9 and 10 must be
thoroughly finished.
For Social Science, i.e. History, Geography, and Civics, the following are the best books:
For the Maths section, finish the NCERT Maths textbook of Class 10 thoroughly. Also, use the NCERT Class 9
textbook of Class 9 for some of the chapters and concepts that are included in the syllabus of NTSE
R.S. Aggarwal’s Verbal & Non-Verbal Reasoning is the best book to prepare for the MAT section of NTSE.
The MAT tests for students’ logical reasoning and analytical skills. Students must understand the theory behind
various concepts first and then move onto solving problems.
As mentioned above, the SAT has two parts – Language Test and Science, Social science & Maths. The SAT,
basically, tests students for their academic knowledge, reading skills, application skills, etc. The detailed
syllabus for each of the parts of SAT are tabulated below:
As you can see, this part covers three subjects – Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology), Social Science
(History, Geography, Civics) and Maths. The syllabus for each of these subjects are tabulated below:
It is to be noted that the NTSE Syllabus is not restricted to the topics mentioned above. In order to score well,
you must be well-versed with all the topics and concepts that are included in the NCERT books (of the
respective subjects) of Class 9 and 10.
