REVERSING KIT FOR GILL MODEL 100
AIR OR HYDRAULIC KELLY SPINNERS
PART NUMBER A110-RK
INSPECT D101 DRAG RING BUSHING AND D102 DRAG RING BASE REING FOR WEAR.
INSPECT D103 DRAG SPRING FOR WEAR AND TENSION. IF SIGNS OF WEAR, THEN
REPLACE.
INSTALL D100-A.S 4-PIN DRAG RING WITH GREASE ON THE 0.D, AND BOTTOM.
INSTALL THE 4 JL10R-20 JAWS, BEING CAREFUL TO TIME THE JAWS CORRECTLY.
WE RECOMMEND INSTALLING THE 4 JAWS WITH THE LEFT SIDE OF THE JAW
‘TOUCHING THE INNER TEETH OF THE FINAL DRIVE GEAR.
NEXT INSTALL THE D105-2R-A DOUBLE LOCKING COVER PLATE ASSEMBLY, THIS
ASSEMBLY HAS 4 HOLES THAT MATCH THE 4 JAW PINS IN THE DRAG RING. AT.
‘THIS TIME I CAM LOBE WILL BE ON TOP OF #1 JAW. MOVE JAWS BACK TO CENTER
POSITION AT THIS TIME. CHECK THE 4 JAWS TO BE SURE THEY ARE TIMED THE
SAME.
MOUNT A110-103 CYLINDER BRACKET ASSEMBLY TO THE A103R JAW RETAINER
PLATE AT THIS TIME. TURN OVER TO BE SURE THE BOLTS ARE NOT STICKING
‘THROUGH THE PLATE AS THIS COULD CAUSE DRAG RING OR FINAL DRIVE TO
DRAG ON THE BOLTS. THEN FASTEN THE A103R TO THE A101 TOP PLATE ON
KELLY SPINNER, WITH THE CYLINDER POINTING 10 THE RIGHT OF THE MOTOR.
SET HANGER ON THE KELLY SPINNER; DROP 3 BOLTS THRU MOUNTING HOLES.
‘THE LEG CLOSEST TO THE CYLINDER WILL NEED TO BE TRIMMED OR IT WILL
‘TOUCH CYLINDER, TRIM APPROXIMATELY ¥, OFF FROM THE FOOT TO JUST
ABOVE THE CYLINDER,
INSTALL A110-113 PALM BUTTON VALVE ON DRILLERS CONSOLE. THIS WILL
NEED TO BE INA CONVIENT AREA SO DRILLER WILL BE ABLE TO PLISH TO
ENGAGE KELLY SPINNER IN MAKEUP OR BREAKOUT. THIS VALVE WILL NOT BE
USED TO RETURN TO NEUTRAL,
RUN AIR LINES FROM A110-113 ON DRILLERS CONSOLE 10 CYLINDER ON KELLY
SPINNER. A-PORT GOES TO BACK OF CYLINDER AND B-PORT GOES TO FRONT OF
CYLINDER TO KEEP THE CYLINDER STROKED IN WHEN NOT IN USE. P-PORT IS
PRESSURE AND WHEN PALM VALVE IS PRESSED, THE CYLINDER SHOULD STROKE
OUT’ TO ENGAGE CAM LOBES,
ROTATE KELLY SPINNER SO THAT 1 LOBE IS DIRECTLY UNDER ROLLER AND
ENGAGE CYLINDER TO PRESS CAM LORE, AT THIS TIME CHECK PLUNGER TO
ADJUSTMENT, IT SHOULD BE FLUSHED WITH BOTTOM OF COVER FLATE TO
ALLOW JAW TO PASS. REPEAT WITH OTHER LOBE, TIGHTEN JAM NUT TO CLEVIS
APTER ADIUSTMENT IS MADE.Do's:

Model 100 Reversing Kelly Spinners
1) Measure saver sub to be sure itis 7°4” ouside diameter.
2) Chieck hanger boits that connect hanger to swivel to be sure they are properly
tightened and that safety wire has been installed through holes in head of bolts to
keep from vibrating loose
3) Check at every rig up the hanger bolts, bushings and cushions for wear and replace as,
needed
4) Be sure above hanger bolts have cotter pin or safety wire in the threaded end to,
prevent elastic stop nut from rattling off.
5) Visually inspect at this time to insure Kelly Spinner is centered on swivel.
6) Apply grease in grease fittings on top and bottom of Kelly Spinner.
7), Inspeet for proper hose installation. We stiggest color-codding ends of hoses or install
quick couplings to prevent crossed hoses.
8) Operate palm valve with out air pressure to be sure valve is not sticking, If sticking
lubricate at this time.
9) Inspect cam lobes on cover plate and operate by hand to insure they are not sticking,
and lubricate at this time. These cam lobes operate the locking pins that prevent jaws
from engaging.
10) Run Kelly Spinner before attaching to Kelly to double check for correct hose
installation.
11) After making connection Kelly Spinner direction must be reversed to lock jaws in
neutral position,
Please note: Double locking cover plate uses palm valve to engage jaws in makeup
and breakout.
12) After reversing jaws Kelly Spinner should be run in breakout position without
pressing palm valve to insure jaws are disengaged.
13) Maintain a visual inspection to observe that jaws are in neutral position while
crilling. The jaws should not be rubbing sub or near engagement,
14) Change oil in Kelly Spinner at least once a month, or more if Kelly Spinner has been
contact with steam cleaner or leaky swivel that could allow contaminates to be
forced by top seal. Use 80/90w gear oil or in cold climate conditions use 10w30 oil.
15) If there is any question about the safety of the Kelly Spinner simply remove jaws
from the unit until Kelly Spinner ean be serviced.
1) Don’t operate Kelly Spinner with sticking valves or cam lobes.
2) Don’t stick fingers or hands in Kelly S| le unit is in operation.
3) Don’t forget to reverse jaws after cach connection
4) Don’t push palm valve to return jaws to neutral position.
5) Don’t perform any maintenance or other work to unit while in operation.CLEVIS
