Overview

The Milwaukee Bucks Sport Science / Strength & Conditioning Internship Program will prepare
candidates to become a job-ready professional at the elite sports level for a High Performance
team. This appointment is a hands-on, immersive experience in the cutting-edge world of the
Milwaukee Bucks High Performance Program that successfully integrates Sport Science, Strength &
Conditioning, Sports Medicine, Psychology, Nutrition and Analytics.

This paid internship is focused on developing professionals that are actively pursuing a career as a
Strength & Conditioning Coach in a modern, fully integrated High Performance model. Although
experience in basketball is beneficial, a professional with experience coaching and developing
athletes from multiple sports is preferred.

Responsibilities

The Milwaukee Bucks Sport Science/Strength & Conditioning Intern will:


• Develop an understanding of the philosophies needed for successful interaction with professional
athletes.
• Develop skills in writing and implementing scientifically sound training programs for professional
athletes.
• Develop detailed knowledge of the physiological, kinesiological and training requirements for
basketball.
• Develop a thorough understanding of the training systems used by the Milwaukee Bucks.
• Develop extensive knowledge of rehabilitation and return to play procedures including extensive
collaboration with an integrated sports medicine staff.
• Develop expert proficiency in using the sport science testing, monitoring and tracking technology.
• Develop skills in strength training software, and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and other
performance tracking software.
• Successfully develop a broad knowledge of all areas of high performance by assisting data
analysis, sports nutrition, sports technology, strength and conditioning.
• Successfully complete an applied sport science project that contributes to the team.
• Successfully assistwith the preparation and program implementation of all athletes and staff in the
Milwaukee Bucks organization.Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

This position is located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with occasional travel to the Milwaukee Bucks G-
League team in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Although daily hours may vary depending on the team’s travel,
practice and game schedule, this is a full-time commitment, including select evenings and
weekends.

This position will require and include, but not limited to:
• Daily meetings with all Performance Staff to collaborate on all facets of Performance Planning and
Implementation.
• Regular research readings on various topics, providing summary and critique to staff in
presentation formats.
• Learning the effective use of sport science technology including but not limited to: Body
Composition, Lactate Profiling, VO2 Testing, Movement Screen, Strength Testing, Jump Testing
Protocols, Balance Tests, Anaerobic Tests, various Field Tests, Hydration testing, data entry,
analysis and the development of resulting action plans.
• Learning to effectively prepare, implement and manage a training program using S&C
programming software packages.
• Shadow various High Performance Staff (not limited to Strength & Conditioning Staff), including:
• Sports Medicine staff to learn rehabilitation and return to play protocols for common basketball
injuries. Prepare a hypothetical rehabilitation program and present to staff.
• Sport Dietician and Culinary staff to understand role of each in a High Performance Program.
• Sport Psychology staff to develop awareness of effective Sport Psychology strategies in a
professional team environment.
• Develop advanced spreadsheet techniques to organize, present and analyze data.
• Develop hypothetical training programs for a variety of sports to present to staff on a regular basis.
• Become proficient at facility design, maintenance and repair in a High Performance setting.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in exercise science, sport science or related field.
• Professional qualifications or certifications related to elite player conditioning, training and testing.
CSCS (NSCA) preferred or must be completed within three months of start date.
• A minimum of two (total/combined) years of experience as a strength & conditioning coach with
professional, Olympic or NCAA (D-I) athletes (including as a graduate assistant or internship) in a
team environment.
• Experience being able to lead groups of athletes in a variety of activities across a variety of
mediums, including the weight room, on the court, in the pool, etc.
• Computer competence in a variety of data analysis programs, including Excel, Powerpoint, Word,
etc.
• Practical experience in a wide range of sport science testing protocols and the ability to work
effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary High Performance Team.
• Candidates will be required to complete a successful background and MVR screen prior to
employment.
