​ABSTRACT

Clothing is one of the basic needs of human beings and first produced by using
handlooms.The Handloom sector of India is an important part of the country's economy as well
as socio-cultural traditions.It has been sustained by transferring skills from one generation to
another.In the country today handloom production is the 2nd largest employment generation
activity after agriculture.

The aim of the study is to identify the driving factors influencing marketing of handloom
products at Erode. It is found that it has faced a lot of changes in the form of
mechanization,fibres used,refined methods of manufacturing and designing etc,.This study
adopts that some of the factors influencing marketing of handloom products by selected master
weavers for sampling technique.

The study findings that the handloom industry in this district is unorganized.This study helps
to develop the small scale into large scale growth.Therefore this study gives scope for
conducting further research in future.
RESEARCH PROBLEM

Problems faced by Handloom weavers in Erode district :

​ he major problem faced by weavers is input material and the Inadequacy in

supply of yarn.There will be insufficient number of handlooms to produce products.The weavers
are not satisfied towards their wages.Mostly the aged people are weaving in this sector.They also
face the problem of skilled weavers and the active people to work for their weaving.

Competition will be high from the mechanized sector such as Powerloom sectors and other
developing technologies using machines.The weavers will be lacking in attractive promotion of
products.The weavers had poor knowledge about the modernized technique and they are not
satisfied towards Schemes provided by the government for handlooms. There will be low
productivity and the lack of intensive distribution.

Researched Area in Erode : Palayapalayam, Komarapalayam, Chennimalai ,Perundurai
