Statement of Purpose (SOP)

Important Information
 The information provided in the Statement of Purpose (SOP) should be complete and
current information.
 The information provided in your Statement of Purpose (SOP) should be a reflection of your
own personal circumstances. While it is reasonable to refer to various available material for
reference, at no instance, should information provided in your Statement of Purpose (SOP)
be copied from directly other sources or from other student’s SOP’s.

1) Introduce yourself? Start by stating your name, details of who all are in your family and
what all do they do. (If married, please provide details of your spouse as well. If you have
any children, please provide the details. Please also list whether your spouse and / or child
/ children will be accompanying you to Australia.)

2) Provide information about your previous study. Detail where all you have studied since
Year 10 till your last attained qualification. List the board, school, marks and stream.

3) If applicable, provide details of your current / previous employment. List where all you
have worked, how long and the duties and task you performed at work.

4) If there are any gaps in your study / employment, you must explain them. For example,
what were you doing during that period.
Some examples may be – looking for further options to study / work, etc. (evidences must be
provided to substantiate your claims).
Unacceptable response – someone was sick in the family, or I was preparing for IELTS (unless
evidence can be provided and your IELTS score are reflective of the same).

5) Why have you decided to pursue further study in Australia? What other international
destinations did you consider before choosing Australia.
Unacceptable answer-because Australia is multicultural country that offers practical
education. Education in my country is theoretical. Australia has high ranking universities, etc.
I / my family always dreamed of getting foreign / international study / degree.
Unacceptable response - Canada has cold weather, US and UK are more expensive.
6) Any particular reason for not pursuing further education in your home country?
Some acceptable examples can be, high marks required to seek admissions, similar costs to
as Australia when compared to Private Sector Universities, etc.
Unacceptable response - There is theoretical teaching skills in my home country and
Australian Universities offer practical education}.

7) What research have you done about other universities in Australia and why did you
choose CSU?
Unacceptable response - because CSU has good libraries, good teaching staff, the university
has research facility, high ranking, free Wi-Fi, provides accommodation, airport pick-up, etc.}

8) Provide details about the course that you are going to study. Why have you chosen this
course and what learning outcomes will you get from the course?
Do not list course subjects from the university website.

9) If the course you intend to pursue in Australia is not related to your previous study /
employment, please provide reasons for changing your field of study / work? If you are
coming to pursue a similar level course (Masters to Masters), please provide your reasons.

10) Provide details (including costs) of your proposed living arrangements in Australia?
Unacceptable response: My friend is living in Melbourne and studying at the same University.
I will live with my friend.

11) Provide details of how you will be funding your expenses (including course, fee, travel and
accommodation)? Who will be providing these funds, their relationship with you?

12) What are your future plans and how will the course in Australia help in future
employment prospects in their home country?
Unacceptable response: I will join an MNC like IBM, Google, Reliance, Dell, HP as a Manager
with a handsome salary package (or receive Rs 500,000 per year).

13) Address any immigration history you (or any accompanying members of your family) have.
Provide details of any previous visas that have been refusal including the reasons for refusal.
Note: You must include details of any visas that have been granted previously as well
(including visitor, student, HSMP, Student dependent, Migration or any other visa)

14. How much is the annual expense he is expecting (living cost/fee/other expense),
(yearly/Monthly/Weekly)

15. What is the Fee refund policy of the institution (can be found from offer letter under the terms
and conditions)?

16. If you are marriage, when and where did you get married?

17. Details about your partner.

18. Are you intending to bring your partner here, if yes, how much is the additional expense you
have to prove?

19. Be ready to be asked about your family members and their details.

20. Have you considered going other than Australia for studies? If yes than why he chose Australia
and Why not other countries?

21. Whether visa have been refused for any country, if yes give details.

22. Your studies and experience will be discussed in detail.

23. MOST IMPORTANTLY, every student must need to agree that he has been consulted and wish to
send the file to the specific institution.
Study plan Submit a one page study plan which answers the following questions and includes any
other information relevant to the processing of your application:

1. Why do you wish to study in XXX country in the program for which you have been accepted?

2. What is your overall educational goal?

3. Why are you not pursuing a similar program in your country of residence or of citizenship?

4. What research have you done into studies in your country of residence or of citizenship?

citizenship?

6. What ties do you have to your country of residence or of citizenship?

7. In the case of a minor applicant, what are your reasons for studying in Canada? What is your
parents’ or guardians’ immigration status in their current country of residence?

8. Provide details of your education history – dates when the course started and ended, the name
and address of the school, the course taken, qualification, degree or certificate awarded for the
course
