Chapter I

INTRODUCTION

Background of the study

An understanding of animal manure and commercialized fertilizer is important because of their

effect on nutrient availability to plants especially in the growth of mung bean in the garden.

Animal manure is an organic farming technique becoming more popular because they allow

crop production while protecting the health of soil and the environment. increasing the organic

matter content of the soil, improving soil physical properties and increasing microbial activity.

They are sometimes not economical to use in conventional agronomic production systems. It

also one of the oldest and most effective fertilizers, has a high concentration of many nutrients

and is known by professional growers as the best ingredient for growth. Besides, with more

usage of animal manure our environment will become cleaner and more eco friendly. Mung

beans prefer light soil with adequate amounts of water; they are intolerant of poorly drained

soil. The growth of mung beans requires rich nutrients, such as calcium, magnesium and

sulphur. Animal manure and Commercialize fertilizer all satisfy this requirements.

In this investigation the researchers will compare the growth of mung bean in animal manure

and commercialized fertilizer. The objective is to uncover the best growth medium that will

produce the tallest growing mung bean. After this experiment, the researchers will be able to

provide organic growers the information about the animal manure and commercialized fertilizer

that provide the highest growth of their mung bean plants.

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK

Animal manures significantly increased the chemical soil properties evaluated. Irrespective of

the manure type, soil available levels of N and P increased with increasing rates of application.

The results also revealed variations among the three manures and the trend was: poultry

manure > goat manure > dairy cow manure. Similar trends were observed for other attributes

observed namely, shoot dry matter yield, taproot length and root dry weight. These responses

could largely be due to the initial differences in total N, total P and organic carbon of the three

manures. Poultry manure had the highest levels of total N, total P and narrowest ratios of C/N

and C/P,suggesting superior mineralization of organic forms of N and P compared to goat and

dairy cow manures. (A. P. Maerere1* G. G. Kimbi2 and D. L. M. Nonga3).

Animal manures are probably the most commonly available organic material used for their

fertilizer value. Animal manures sometimes can’t be certified as an organic fertilizer because of

some feed additives that might have been used to enhance animal performance. Animal

manure is essentially a complete fertilizer. It varies in nutrient contents, but a fertilizer ratio of 1-

1-1 is typical. Animal manures make outstanding soil conditioners. Commonly available manures

include cow, swine and poultry. The highest nutrient values are generally found in the fresh

manures and decreases as the material ages or is composted. Although fresh manures have
higher available nutrient contents, an aged or composted material is sometimes more

appropriately used to facilitate spreading, minimize burn potential or the presence of excess

Paradigm of the study

Statement of the problem

1. What is the height of mung bean plant in one month that applied by animal manure?

2. What is the height of mung bean plant in one month that applied by commercialized

fertilizer?

3. What is more effective in the growth of mung bean plant between animal manure and

commercialized fertilizer?

Objectives of the study

General objectives:

The objective of this study was to comparatively evaluate the effects of animal manure and

commercialized fertilizer on the growth of Ming bean plant within one month of obsevation.

1. To determine the height of mung bean plant in one month that applied by animal manure.

2. To determine the height of mung bean plant in one month that applied by commercialized

fertilizer.

3. To determine the more effect between animal manure and commercialize fertilizer in the

growth of mung bean plant.

Significant of the study

The study would serve as reference not only in the school but also to other local government

units, community and planters whose aim is to increase the growth of mung bean plant in a

healthy way. This would also provide information to all planters about the difference effect of

animal manure and commercialize fertilizer in the growth of mung bean plant. And Lastly this

study helps to promote the eco friendly and clean environment.

Scope and Delimitation

The study was conducted at Mibando Poblacion Quezon Bukidnon in a natural setting where the

mung bean is comfortable to grow. This only focuses to the growth of mung bean plant that

applied by animal manure and commercialize fertilizer within one month of obsevation.
Null HYPOTHESIS

The animal manure and commercialized fertilizer have the same effect in the growth of mung

bean within the period of one month. From experience, professional growers acknowledge

animal manure as the ideal growing medium and the best ingredient for plant growth. Animal

manure and commercialized fertilizer offers mung beans a high nutrient status for growth and

lightens up the soil, which mung beans prefer and make a huge growth. Abimal manure retains

many times the moisture and releases this water slowly as the plant needs it. This is beneficial

for the mung bean plant, because the plant is not tolerant of poorly drained environments.

Animal manure can help control the plant’s water absorption. Since animal manue may be a

8little bit acidic, the addition of soil will help balance the pH to a more neutral environment that

the mung beans prefer. Due to the many benefits that animal manure and commercialize

fertilizer provide. The researchers believe that this two component is the best substance

promoting the highest growth.
