Gurgaon block.
In the month of October, the following specific activities were organized:
Coordinated with schools in Sohna, FarukhNagar and Gurgaon block for training sessions
Conducted 57 training sessions, attended by a total of 1986 children from Sohna, Farukh
Nagar and Gurgaon Block
2
Verified and analyzed the pre and post evaluation data from Pataudi, Sohna and Farukh
Nagar Block
OBJECTIVE 1
Designing the session plan for school kids to sensitize them towards water conservation
through various means of activities, games, engaging conversations, presentations etc.
Achievements:
Session plans for school children were reviewed, revised and implemented.
OBJECTIVE 2
Designing focused module for the employee section (government officers and corporates) to
evoke realization within the masses, educate them on the impending emergency and suggest
tools and measures that can be adopted to conserve water at their level
Achievements:
The module previously developed for the employee section was revised and enhanced. The
modules were customized based on the demand and needs of the corporates.
OBJECTIVE 3
Facilitating sessions for panchayat representatives from all panchayats of the district to
sensitize, suggest and supporting them by answering their questions related to various ways
that should be adopted for water conservation
Achievements:
All the sessions from Panchayat representatives i.e. Biodiversity Management Committees
were conducted in the month of September.
3
OBJECTIVE 4
Conducting the training of the trainers, maintaining their accountability and supervising them
to conduct sessions in 129 middle government schools of the district, 4 block level trainings of
Bio-diversity Management Committee and other key representatives of the Panchayat and
weekend open training sessions for Government Officers and Corporate representatives for 12
weekends.
Achievements:
A total of 3803 children from various government schools in the blocks of Pataudi, Sohna,
Farukh Nagar, and Gurgaon, were sensitized on water conservation as on October’2019.
Through 105 training sessions, the children’s existing knowledge on water availability, water-
borne diseases, and the efficient use of drinking water, were enhanced, and the concepts of
rainwater harvesting and water budgeting were clarified and elucidated. In the month of
October alone, 57 schools were covered.
A detailed account of all 105 training sessions held at the various schools, may be found in
Annexure 1. It highlights the observations of the trainers on the children and their receptivity to
each of the training sessions, along with information of the members of the Jal Sansad (Water
Parliament) in each of the schools.
4
GMS Jori Shanp Ki
The overall impact of the sessions were analyzed block-wise, through the children's responses
to a series of analytical questions aimed at discovering their pre-training knowledge level and
contrasting it with their level of understanding post the training session. The questions were
constructed around the awareness of access and use of potable water.
The following questions were asked for pre and post evaluation:
1. How much percentage of drinkable water is available on earth?
2. Tick mark on the diseases caused by drinking impure water.
3. What do you do with the remaining water after drinking some part of it?
4. Do you understand the process of rainwater harvesting?
5. Which water purification technique do you use for drinking clean water?
6. Have you ever made the water budget sheet of your school?
7. What do you want to do after becoming a member of the Jal Sansad? Explain in brief.
All valid responses received were further verified and analyzed into observable trends, to not
only illustrate the impact of the training sessions on the knowledge level of the children, but
also form the basis for upcoming action points, as part of the necessities of the targeted blocks.

Among the 3803 students reached through the 105 training sessions, 1091 students were
members of the Jal Sansad of their respective schools. Through these members, the students
understood the importance of the roles and responsibilities of Jal Sansad members, and their
goals, duties and aspirations toward furthering the cause of water conservation in their regions.

Pre Post
The graph illustrates the impact of training sessions held in Sohna Block. The red bars
show the increase in knowledge level of the students, which also reflects the success of
the training sessions.
The areas of maximum impact were seen in the enhancement of the knowledge base of
the children on the availability of potable water (an increase of 37%) and water-borne
diseases (an increase of 40%).
While minimum impact was observed in the enhancement of knowledge level on
rainwater harvesting and water budgeting (increase of 14% and 21%, respectively), the
cross-examination of the same with the students revealed that their existing knowledge
base on rainwater harvesting was very limited, and their awareness of the concept of
water budget was fairly non-existent, even though 49 % of the responses were positive
during the pre-training evaluation. The two concepts were especially clarified during the
training.

Pre Post
The graph illustrates the impact of training sessions held in Farukh Nagar Block. The red
bars show the increase in knowledge level of the students, which also reflects the
success of the training sessions.
The areas of maximum impact were seen in the enhancement of the knowledge base of
the children on water-borne diseases (an increase of 66%) and the efficient utilization of
remaining drinking water after consumption (an increase of 63%).
While minimum impact was observed in the enhancement of knowledge level on
rainwater harvesting (an increase of 28%) the cross-examination of the same with the
students revealed that their pre-training clarity on the concept of rainwater harvesting
was very superficial, and required thorough explanation during the training.
Despite a response of 25% of the students reporting that they were aware of the
concept of water budget pre-training, the same was not verified on cross-examination,
which revealed that it was a fairly new concept for the students. In this, an increase of
30% in the knowledge level of the students was achieved through the training sessions
9
Impact Analysis – Trends
In the analyses, the first question on the availability of potable water was purposed toward
testing the existing knowledge of the students, while the two questions following it, on water-
borne diseases and the efficient utilization of remaining drinking water after consumption,
tested the awareness levels among the students. The analyses of the three blocks, Pataudi,
Sohna and Farukh Nagar, revealed a set of trends in the responses of students. Through the
comparative study of knowledge levels pre and post the training sessions, the foll owing
observations were drawn:
1. The existing pre-training awareness level on water-borne diseases is very low in all three
blocks, with a range of a mere 6-11% of the respondents being aware of the same. This
topic is also the area where maximum impact is visible across all three blocks, with the
training sessions having enhanced the awareness levels by 40-66%.
2. As few as 15-29% of the respondents were aware on ways to optimize their water use,
by effectively utilizing the remaining water after consumption. Hence, the awareness
level on ways to avoid wastage of drinking water was enhanced significantly through the
training sessions.
3. Despite a range of 55-68% of the respondents reporting a pre-training awareness of
rainwater harvesting, their awareness was limited and considerably vague. The training
sessions provided much needed clarifications and explanations.
4. Responses reflecting the awareness level on the concept of water budget were
superficial. While 25-52% of the respondents reported a pre-training awareness of
water budgeting, the same could not be verified. It was discovered through the training
sessions that water budget was a fairly new concept for all the students.
5. Of the three blocks, Farukh Nagar block is seen to have the most impact of the training
sessions. The pre-training knowledge level of students in this block was the lowest, in
comparison to the other two blocks, and subsequently, the training sessions in this block
tremendously increased the students' awareness.

Today's programme has taught us that if
we see a leaking faucet, we must close it,
and motivate everyone else to save
water. Together, with the members of my
school's Jal Sansad (Water Parliament), I
will spread awareness among all for
conserving water, and will deliver my
tasks in school as I would at home.

One of the major challenge we faced was in gathering the contact numbers of school
teachers, which we had to arrange through local sources, for all the 105 school-level
training sessions conducted.
24 Training sessions will be conducted for the school students of Gurgaon block.
