    Conjunction (Kata Penghubung)

    Conjunction adalah kata atau kelompok kata yang digunakan untuk menghubungkan
    frasa(phrase), klausa(clause), dan kalimat(sentence).
    Conjunction merupakan salah satu parts of speech. Conjunction juga disebut connective
    atau penghubung.

    Jenis-jenis Conjunction dan Contohnya:


    1. Coordinate Conjunction
    Coordinate Conjunction mengabungkan item yang setara atau sama dalam
    suatu kalimat. Yaitu:
    for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so
    (supaya mudah dihafal, ingat awalnnya FANBOYS)
    Contoh penggunaan dalam kalimat:
    I love drawing and fishing
    You can study hard for this exam or you can fail.
    The weather was cold but clear.
    John plays basketball well, yet his favorite sport is badminton.
    Doni thought he had a good chance to get the job, for his father was on the
    company’s board of trustees.
    Lia is not the only athlete in his family, so are his brother, and sister.
    2. Correlative Conjunction
    Beberapa conjunction berpasangan dengan kata lain untuk membentuk
    apa yang disebut correlative conjunction yang berfungsi untuk
    menunjukkan hubungan antara dua kata, phrase, atau clause.
    Yaitu:
    both . . . and....
    neither . . . nor...
    not only . . . but also....
    whether . . . or...
    not . . . but.....
    as . . . as....
    either . . . or....
    Contoh penggunaan dalam kalimat:
    Both Lia and Ana, they are good students.
    He gets the best score not only in TOEFL but also IELTS.
    Whether you win or lose the game, you have made your parents proud of
    you.
    She is as smart as her mother.

    3. Subordinate Conjunction
    Subordinate Conjunction diguakan untuk menghubungkan dependent
    clause dengan main clause pada suatu kalimat.
    yaitu:
    after if though
    although if only till
    as in order that unless
    as if now that until
    as long as once when
    as though rather than whenever
    because since where
    before so that whereas
    even if than wherever
    even though that while
    Contoh penggunaan dalam kalimat:
    She gets good score because she studied lastnight.
    The teacher came before we finished the task.
    Jhon was reading a book when you knocked the door.
    I visited the place where you met Mr. Leo.
    She is reading while her mother is cooking.

    4. Adverbial Conjunction
    The adverbial conjunctive such as however, moreover, nevertheless,
    consequently, as a result digunakan untuk membuat hubungan yang
    kompleks antara gagasan atau ide dalam suatu paragraf.
    contoh: however, moreover, nevertheless, consequently, as a result
