    The Hunger Games – District 12 Reaping Scene

    Effie Trinket: Now the time has come for us to select one courageous young man and woman for
    the honour of representing district 12 in the 74th annual Hunger Games. As usual
    ladies first. (She draws a name) Primerose Everdeen. Where are you? Come on up.
    Well come on up.

    (As Prim moves forward Katniss runs to stop her)

    Katniss: Prim! Prim! No, no! I volunteer. I volunteer. I volunteer as tribute.

    Effie Trinket: I believe we have a volunteer.

    Katniss: (To Prim) You need to get out of here.

    Prim: No!

    Katniss: You need to get out of here. Go and find Mum. Go and find Mum right now. I’m so
    sorry.

    Prim: No, no, no!

    (Gale comes forward and take Prim back into the crowd)

    Effie Trinket: Yes well, District 12’s very first volunteer. Come on up. Come on dear. (Katniss
    moves to the stage) What’s your name?

    Katniss: Katniss Everdeen.

    Effie Trinket: Well I bet my hat, that’s your sister wasn’t it?

    Katniss: Yes.

    Effie Trinket: Let’s have a big hand for our very first volunteer Katniss Everdeen. And now for the
    boys. (She draws a name) Peeta Mellark. (Peeta walks slowly to the stage) Here we
    are, our tributes from District 12. Well go on you two, shake hands. (They shake
    hands) Happy Hunger Games and may the odds be ever in your favour.
