INTRODUCTION

Hebrews 11:6
"But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that
cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a
rewarder of them that diligently seek him."

Coming to God to engage His counsel for your life, family or

community is a rewarding activity as there is a bonafide promise of
divine performance.

God seeks to validate His word (counsel) with proofs as a form of

reward just like the fathers of faith. This is the reward of answered
prayers; the promise of experiencing the full reality of God's
counsel or determinations for your life, family and community.

Hebrews 11:1-2
"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of
things not seen.
For by it the elders obtained a good report."

However, the manifestation of this glorious reality is hinged on very

important conditions apart from which we will only have the
statement of God's counsel but not the manifestation thereof.

1 John 3:20-22
"For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart,
and knoweth all things.
Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence
toward God.
And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his
commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his
sight."

Enforcing the counsel of God requires the basic all-important

premise of PURE CONSCIENCE that is void of offence; for this is the
confidence by which we know that God answers our prayer.

1 John 5:14-15
"And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask
any thing according to his will, he heareth us:
And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know
that we have the petitions that we desired of him."

To enjoy this glorious reality of answered prayer; the rewards of

seeking the Lord, Paul made effort to always have a pure
conscience.

Acts 24:16
"And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience
void of offence toward God, and toward men."

FOUR CONDITIONS OF THE CONSCIENCE

THE WEAK CONSCIENCE

The weak conscience is the one that has not been nurtured in the
truth of God's word to develop convictions and acceptable
standards of perception.

It is not able to take anything that is not within its immediate grasp
or understanding and as such can easily be manipulated, offended
or violated.

1 Corinthians 8:7
"Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some
with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing
offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is
defiled"
A weak conscience can easily be defiled or wounded; causing the
person to loose out on the glorious possibilities in Christ.

1 Corinthians 8:9-13
"But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a
stumblingblock to them that are weak.
For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the
idol's temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be
emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;
And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for
whom Christ died?
But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak
conscience, ye sin against Christ.
Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no
flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to
offend."

Titus 1:15-16
"Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are
defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind
and conscience is defiled.
They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him,
being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work
reprobate."

The weak conscience is handled by submission to the oversight of

godly counsel and ardent feeding on the word of God.

1 Peter 2:2
"As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye
may grow thereby"

THE EVIL CONSCIENCE

This is the conscience of the unsaved man but unfortunately can

linger in the heart of the saved when the responsibility of divine
transformation is left unattended to.
This is the conscience that keeps desiring evil and has evil
extension to any good activity. It displaces the heart from a true
disposition of humility and love toward God and man.

Hebrews 10:22
"Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith,
having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our
bodies washed with pure water."

The evil conscience is dealt with in active fellowship of the saints

where the light of the blood of Christ and the purity of the Word of
God are operational.

1 John 1:7
"But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have
fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his
Son cleanseth us from all sin."

THE SEARED CONSCIENCE

This is the worst condition of the conscience where the senses of

the conscience become desensitized and dead, such that they serve
no purpose of judgment and direction except to validate a person's
will for evil.

1 Timothy 4:1-2
"Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times
some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing
spirits, and doctrines of devils;
Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with
a hot iron"

This conscience has broken down all forms of conviction and

standards to the point that he finds justification in everything; to
perceive and prove a stance of self righteousness.
THE PURE CONSCIENCE

This is the perfect condition of the conscience; that aligns with

God's intent and expressions to provide the witness necessary for
our faith.

The witness of the conscience is the mystery of faith - where what

we perceive is what God declares and so we believe to become.

1 Timothy 3:9
"Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience."

2 Timothy 1:3
"I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure
conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in
my prayers night and day"

The pure conscience is one that is purged by the blood of Christ

through intimate fellowship with the divine and as such is perfected
in its dealings.

Hebrews 9:14
"How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the
eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your
conscience from dead works to serve the living God?"
