What are Uber’s long- and short-term goals, based on the case? Are these goals aligned?
Based on the case Ubers long term goals have the company being a leading force in the pursuit of a
self-driving car. The goal is for the car to be safer than human drivers and creating a better world for
all travelers. The short-term goals of Uber are still to be an affordable and convenient transportation
but instead of having to fight in heavily contested markets. Uber is in the sustainable growth phase in
the short term as they wait for the fall out of the fatal accident involving the testing of their prototype
for a self-driving car. In the long run Uber wants to use their innovations in the tech industry to change
the market and the world.
A SMART goal for Uber is very complex but a specific goal for the company is to develop self-driving
cars that are safer and more reliable that its human counterpart. That next step is a measureable
aspect and that is to develop the technology that can decrease accidents and deaths on the roads by
10% each year. The attainable side would be for the technology to be able to safely drive on roads
with other technology and human drivers without raising the number of accidents and fatalities. The
relevance of it will not be an issue as cars are the primary method of transportation with next to no
competition from another method to beat it out in efficiency and ease of access. To wrap up the
SMART goal for Uber is time and the company should aim to have a functional model within the next
10 years that can be produced and added into the market by the company.
