Going Beyond Limits: Enhancing the Practices and Engagement in Research Writing

CONFERENCE AWARDS
The 2nd Institutional Research Colloquium is pleased to make several awards for the
contributions showing outstanding merit and deserving recognition. The awards will be allocated
by several panel of evaluators on the said conference. The winner of each award will be given a
certificate of recognition.

BEST PAPER AWARD


The Best Paper Award is given for the paper judged to make the most significant
contribution to the conference.
The judges may make their assessment based on the papers contained in the proceedings,
not on the oral presentation of the papers.
In making their decision the judges will take the following criteria into account:

Originality (weighting 40%)


Originality of contribution to knowledge with an emphasis on the
paper’s innovativeness in one or more of; theoretical development, empirical
results or, policy development.
Quality of Argument (weighting 30%)
Quality of argument incorporating; critical analysis of concepts,
theories and findings, and consistency and coherency of debate.
Positioning (weighting 15%)
Clear positioning of paper in existing local and international literature
with a conclusion(s) that is both convincing and of significant potential
application and relevance of the work.

Writing Style (weighting 15%)


Quality of writing style in term of accuracy, clarity, readability, and
organization of the paper.

BEST STUDENT PAPER AWARD


The Best Paper Award is given for the paper judged to make the most significant
contribution to the conference, where the main author is a research student.
The judges may make their assessment based on the papers contained in the proceedings,
not on the oral presentation of the papers.
In making their decision the judges will take the following criteria into account:

BEST ORAL PRESENTATION


The Best Oral Presentation Award is given to the presenter judged to make the most
outstanding presentation of the thesis/study to the conference.
In the assessment of the judges the following criteria will consider:
Delivery and Presentation (weighting 35%)
Exhibits good body posture. Maintains good eye contact with audience.
Good diction; good articulation.
Content (weighting 30%)
Objectives/goals are clearly stated. Methods are appropriate for
achieving goals. Results are clearly presented. Thoughts and ideas flow in a
logical manner. Results accomplish the purposes of the project.
Knowledge of Material (weighting 25%)
Exhibits knowledge of subject matter. Answers questions with
confidence.
Neatness (weighting 10%)
Neat slides and/or transparencies, free of marks and smudges. Visual
materials are easy to read.
