The Complete
Sellics Checklist
for Amazon SEO &
Higher Rankings
Optimizing your product listing is essential.
If shoppers can't find your product or don't like
the way you present it, they will buy elsewhere.
To prevent that, you must provide a smooth
journey from search to checkout.

Use this checklist to edit your content:

Customer is King. Create your content for your buyer.
Imagine you're a shopper: Make it easy on the eye and
use a clear voice to bring your message across. Don't
think about keywords yet -- Focus on the feels.

Check Your Style. Amazon has specific style guides for

each product category. Stick to them! Click here

Product Title. Include benefits and USPs. Mobile view is

limited to about 70 visible characters, so place the most
important information at the start.
Bullet Points. Maximum 200 bytes (approx. 200
characters) per bullet point. Include key features and
benefits. 1 benefit per bullet point. USPs in the first 3.

Product Description. Avoid duplicating the bullet

points. Tell a story about the product.
Make it easy to read. Maximum three lines per
paragraph -- you’ll need to use simple HTML code here.
Separate paragraphs with <p> text </p> or <br> (line
break). Use <b> text </b> for bold text and headings.

Additional Information. Provide as much information

as possible -- Amazon’s search filters (page navigation)
make use of this (e.g. color, size, material).

Persuasive Images. Prepare as many high-quality

images as you can. Make sure they have at least 1000
pixels on the long side to enable the zoom function.

Main Image. No accessories, props, or graphics. White

background (RGB 255, 255, 255). Product must be fully
visible and fill 85% to 100% of the image. No packaging.

Additional Images. Use as many as possible! Images

improve your conversion rate significantly. Get creative:
Show your product in action, in its environment, from
different angles, and how it can help your customer.

Enhanced Content. If you have registered your brand

with Amazon, you should use Enhanced Brand Content
(Seller) or A+ Content (Vendor) instead of the product
description. Go here to access our complete module
guide (including all templates for enhanced content).
Optimize your content with keywords:
Place Keywords Elsewhere. Enhanced Content is not
indexed. You need to include keywords elsewhere.

Prioritize Research. Use Sonar to find all the keywords

you need to include in your product listing.

Backend First. Start your optimization workflow by

adding the backend keywords. To maximize this
capacity, see the formatting guide at the end of this list.

Sprinkle into Content. Place the remaining keywords in

the product text fields. Aim for readability -- as long as
you include the keyword, your product will rank for it.

The location of your keyword in the content is no

longer important, but watch out for these pitfalls:

Total Title. The title is fully indexed, but make sure you
check the Amazon Style Guide to determine the
correct title length for your product and avoid rejection.

Bite Bullets. In some categories, Amazon only indexes

the first 1000 bytes (incl. spaces) as a sum across all
bullet points. Stick to max. 200 bytes per bullet point.

Dual Description. Keywords in the product description

only work in combination with other keywords. This
makes it the ideal place for your long tail keywords --
with limited effects.

Add Additionals. The additional product and keyword

fields are also indexed. Fill in as much as possible.
Keyword Formatting Guide
No need to repeat words, e.g. ‘wallet men leather’
instead of ‘wallet men wallet leather’). Repetition
shows no positive impact on ranking. Instead, use
the space to add more relevant keywords.
Use either singular or plural. Adding both is not
necessary. The exception: Long compound words in
German (e.g. Mehrzweckregal, Fitnessarmbänder)
Capitalizing letters (or not) is irrelevant.
Umlaute (ü, ä, ö) are matched to ue, ae, oe
Accents (entrecôte, mèches) are matched to the
non-accent spelling (entrecote, meches)
Minor misspellings (carreirbag, runnign shoe, laether
wallet) are matched to the correct spelling
Different spellings of a compound words (fittnessball
vs. fitness ball, flipchart vs. flip chart) are not indexed
automatically
Cover different variations by joining or separating
words through hyphens, e.g., A-B ranks for A, B, A B,
AB, A-B (use for max. 2 words, e.g. flip-chart)

The backend keyword limit is currently 249 bytes,

including spaces and punctuation. NB regular
characters/letters from A-Z = 1 byte, special
characters (ä, ü, ö, é, etc) = 2 or more bytes.
