    Another pattern from “A la nouveauté – la boutique de

    Jeanne”
    That easy Guernsey hat

    This textured little hat is worked in the round in the traditional Guernsey style.
    This unisex pattern comes in 5 sizes (Craft Yarn Council of America's standard sizing) :
    – baby (B) 35.5-40.5 cm/14-16”,
    – toddler (T) 40.5-45.5 cm/16-18”
    – child (C) 45.5-50.5 cm/18-20”,
    – woman (W) 50.5-56 cm/20-22”,
    – man (M) 56-61 cm/22-24”.
    Instructions are written for the B size, instructions for the other sizes (when different) are between
    parenthesis in this order B (T, C, W, M), or specified.

    Materials :
    - 1 skein (sizes W and M : 1.5 skein) Pingouin “Le Yarn 3”, or any Aran yarn of your choice.
    – a set of DPNs (or a circular needle, if you use the Magic Loop technique) n° 5 (US 8).
    – 1 stitch marker to mark the beginning of each round.
    – 1 tapestry needle.

    Stitches and techniques:


    Stockinette : Knit till end of round.
    Reverse stockinette : Pearl till end of round.
    2x2 ribs : *K2, P2* repeat till end of round.
    K2tog : Knit 2 stitches together.

    Gauge :
    18 stitches and 22 rounds in stockinette = 10 cm x 10 cm (4”x4”)

    Instructions :
    Cast on 56 (T : 64 / C : 72 / W : 80 / M : 88) stitches.
    Join for working in the round, taking care not to twist stitches.
    Place marker at the beginning of the round.
    Work 4 (T : 6 / C : 6 / W : 6 / M : 8) rounds in 2x2 ribs.
    Work 2 rounds in stockinette, 2 rounds in reverse stockinette, 2 rounds in stockinette, 2 rounds in
    reverse stockinette, 2 rounds in stockinette.

    Central pattern :
    Work 1 round in 2x2 ribs, beginning with P2 ;
    Knit 1 round ;
    Work 1 round in 2x2 ribs, beginning with K2 ;
    Knit 1 round ;
    Repeat these 4 rounds 3 times (T, C, W : 4 times / M : 5 times) → total 16 rounds (T, C, W : 20
    rounds / M : 24 rounds).
    Work 2 rounds in reverse stockinette, 2 rounds in stockinette, 2 rounds in reverse stockinette, 2
    rounds in stockinette.

    Decreases (crown shaping) : Worked in stockinette, every 2 rounds, that is, alternating 1 round
    decrease, I round stockinette.
    Size M only :
    *K9, K2tog*, repeat from * to * 8 times → 80 stitches.
    Sizes W and M only :
    *K8, K2tog*, repeat from * to * 8 times → 72 stitches.
    Sizes C, W, and M only :
    *K7, K2tog*, repeat from * to * 8 times → 64 stitches.
    Sizes T, C, W, and M only :
    *K6, K2tog*, repeat from * to * 8 times → 56 stitches.
    All sizes :
    *K5, K2tog*, repeat from * to * 8 times → 48 stitches.
    *K1, K2tog*, repeat from * to * 16 times → 32 stitches.
    *K2tog*, repeat from * to * 16 times → 16 stitches.
    *K2tog*, repeat from * to * 8 times → 8 stitches.
    Cut yarn leaving enough length to allow the sewing.
    Using the tapestry needle, pass it through the remaining stitches, pull tightly. Weave in ends.
    Done !
