Lab No: 02

Objective: In this lab we learn that

 What is input mask.
 What is caption
 What is validation rule
 What is validation text

Introuction:.
Input Mask:
An input mask is a string of characters that indicates the format of valid input values. You can use
input masks in table fields, query fields, and controls on forms and reports. The input mask is
stored as an object property.
You use an input mask when it’s important that the format of the input values is consistent. For
example, you might use an input mask with a field that stores phone numbers so that Access
requires ten digits of input. If someone enters a phone number without the area code, Access won’t
write the data until the area code data is added

Caption:
In caption you will be able To use Your Own text To be shown To Your user In your way .
Such Like In Caption You use date of birth but In Table we can wrote it as DOB.

Validation Rule:
You can vet or validate data in Access desktop databases as you enter it by using validation rules.
You can use the expression builder to help you format the rule correctly. Validation rules can be
set in either table design or table datasheet view.

Validation Text:
The error Message for the data entry operator To Correct the information In their validation
rules.Or The rules Of entering data in this Table.

Post lab tasks:

Post lab Task 1:
Fill in at least one record in your table. Try to enter incorrect data into some fields with validation
rules to see how your validation text is displayed. Also, notice that DOB is displayed as BirthDate
because of the caption that was set.
Design View: Datasheet View:
Validation Rules Applied:
1. 2.

3. 4.

Post lab Task 2:

Create a validation rule so that the Gender field is limited to either “M” or “F” (Male or Female).
The field can also be left blank.

Post lab Task 3:

Create a validation rule so that the Email field is restricted to only this format.
(xyz@ciit-attock.edu.pk)

Validation Rule:
Post lab task 4:
A first or last name with the first letter automatically capitalized. Add an input mask for this data.
e.g Herry Potter.

Input Mask:

Conclusion: At the end of the lab I was able To Do

 Create a Input mask For different data types.
 Apply a validation Rule On my data.
 Write a Caption For my data
 Write a Validation Text To show error message for My validation rule data.
