DESIGN MODELING OF MINI BELT GRINDER

Definition of the problem

Over the past years, there have been rapidly outgrown changes in the grinding and finishing
procedures. The belt grinders used nowadays have their working area fixed and we have to rotate
the workpiece for the finished product of our choice, but the work area remains stationary. So, this
is only suitable for the products which can be handled and carried out by hand and there is no
facility of grinding upside and downside objects in the current grinders. At normal usage, the hand
grinding, burr removal and finishing process of the product cannot be done for large surfaces at the
same level.

Proposed Solution

The previously mentioned issue was tended to the innovation of Belt grinding process which can
work most productively. In that project, we are going to design and fabricate a mini belt grinder
that can be used as a best and versatile grinding tool. What I am going to propose has an extra
capability of rotating the work area to the desired degree of rotation between 0 degree and 180
degree. The proposed project now has three working areas at 0 degree as bottom grinding, the
180 degree as top grinding and the 90-degree angle for vertical grinding of the components from
the workpiece.

Introduction:

Mini belt grinder is used in various industries for finishing of workpieces and gives high surface
quality. It is a rough machining system which is used on woods and iron type materials for the
products in industries to make them able to be sent to markets.
Its applications are:

• Finishing
• Deburring
• Stock removal
• Polishing
• Cleaning of Corrosion

Description of the Product/Process

1
The proposed Mini grinder belt product has a DC motor of 775 Watts which basically rotates
pulleys attached and provides rotation to the grinder belt with grinding paper. The other pulley is
fitted near to the base which is made up of the iron block. It also has a tension spring on the
upper position which causes it to move up and down in a way to keep the belt running over the
pulleys. Then a complete grinding paper is provided over the belt for grinding and finishing
purposes of different metal and wooden components of different dimensions. This tool helps us
to shape the finished product as per our requirements without putting many efforts and give fine
results.

Project Outcomes: Function of the Product/Process

We have a plan of the product Mini belt grinder and will apply some light and hard tests to check
the mechanical properties and feasibility of the product towards our proposed structure. At the
starting of the testing process, we will test the lighter materials like wood for polishing, finishing
and grinding at the bottom, top and vertical positions. It will help us in completing our
arrangements constraining the risks of any mishap to occur in actual project design. It will make
our framework increasingly productive by restricting the tedious and improving the limits of the
Mini belt grinder. We are going to enhance productivity by moving the workspace around the
workpiece which is a highly productive and easier process for heavy workpieces. As far as the
environmental aspect is concerned, a mini belt grinder will create fine burrs and 100% waste will
be collected at the bottom without leaving any particles into the workspace. The initial cost of the
product will be higher but if we summarize all the benefits that will be no cost or less cost-
effective product as compared to the conventional Belt grinders used.

Components of the Product/Process

The major components of the proposed project are as follows:

• CPU fan
• Pulleys
• DC Motor
• Belt
• Coupling
• Base frame
