Positive Behavior Supports for Students with Moderate to Severe Behavioral


Changes

Course Description: It is a comprehensive study and utilization of functional behavior


assessment methods and applications of intervention strategies using positive behavior support
that includes designing learning environment that prevent and reduce problem behaviors.

Course Objectives: At the end of the course, the students should be able to:

1. define and enumerate the components of positive behavior support (PBS)with focus on
learners with moderate to severe disabilities;
2. review the steps involve in PBS;
3. discuss the PBS strategies;
4. plan a school behavior management program; and
5. evaluate current school/agency functional behavior assessment program.

Course Strategies: Asynchronous on-line, assigned specific readings, analytical reviews of


videos and literatures, studies, researches, analysis and answering of focus questions.

Course Requirements:

 Readings Related to the Topics of the Units, Submission of Assignments and Final
Examination
 Synthesis, Assessment Reports and Answers to Focus Questions and Final Exam should
use Times Roman, 12 font, single space

severe disabilities?

Unit V. Current School Functional Assessment Program

Focus Questions:

1. Discuss the role of the family in ensuring an effective functional assessment.


2. What are the issues and concerns on this kind of assessment?
3. Analyze the future trends on research on functional assessment.
