    My Role in Building a Resilient Community towards Disaster

    Preparedness

    Our Country, Philippines, ranks as the third most disaster prone country in
    the world because of its high exposure to natural calamities, after Pacific
    countries and Tonga and Vanuato base on a new international report showed.
    Due to its location, Philippines' evident risk to natural disasters. Being a
    country near at the Pacific Ring of Fire, it is prone to earthquakes and volcanic
    eruptions. In addition, the country is surrounded by large bodies of water and
    facing the Pacific Ocean where most of the world's typhoons are made that's
    why Philippines suffered from an exhaustible number of deadly typhoons.

    Natural disasters are more likely to happen unexpectedly or unforeseen.


    Just like how earthquakes happens out of the blue. It will just came our some
    where out there in any particular time or day. No one can prevent natural
    disasters from happening. It will just happen suddenly and unexpectedly.
    However, we can be prepared for this natural disasters.

    I did agree with the projects that the DRRRMC launches for preparation on
    natural disasters such as earthquakes and typhoons. Being prepared to
    natural disasters that might happen have many good benefits and many good
    help to us. The main goal of disaster preparedness is to lessen the impact of
    disasters vulnerable populations, to ready an organization for an activity, and
    to design a coordinated plan that reduces the waste of resources, time, and
    efforts. The community unison is a must, most especially on being prepared
    about disasters that might happen. 'Cause when the community united in
    preparing for natural disasters, it will be easier to build a resilient community
    towards disaster preparedness.

    The youth—like me, also plays an important role in our community


    especially on building a resilient community towards disaster preparedness.
    Involving us—the youth, in natural disaster preparedness activities can
    increase our awareness and the things that we can do in hazardous situations.
    Which we can use on actual situations that might happen in the future.. The
    things about disaster prepared that we know, can also be use to share this on
    our neighborhood for them to also know, how they will going to respond in this
    various types of emergencies that might happen unexpectedly.

    There are ways or steps that we can do on preparing for a natural disaster.
    One of this is, being update on weather alerts in your place or area. We should
    be always updated on the area's weather. Watch on the tv news of what was
    your area current weather status for the day and for the next few days.
    Second, emergency numbers should be programmed on your phone. It is
    really important to know any emergency numbers, so that if you're in a
    hazardous situation, you have those emergency numbers which you call for
    help. Another is, you and your family should plan where will be their meeting
    place, for you and your family to gather when there's an emergency
    situations. So that, you and your family will easily find each other when a
    disaster occur. And also, you should plan with your family about the escape
    routes from your house and neighborhood. You can do these things to be
    prepared on natural disasters that might happen. And as a youth with a
    knowledge about natural disaster preparedness, it is our role to spread the
    word about being prepared on disasters to help others prepare themselves
    that will result to a lesser loss of lives and lesser damage of properties.

    Sharing what we know or sharing our knowledge about these things—


    disaster preparedness, to our neighborhood will help and save many people
    lives. Just like what DRRMC always says, 'Ligtas, ang may alam'. Because if
    you have that knowledge, you know what will do in an actual situations. But if
    you're one of those people who has a lack of knowledge about disaster
    preparedness, don't be shy to ask others who's knowledgeable. Don't shy to
    ask questions that will make you understand more about disaster
    preparedness. Asking others who is knowledgeable about it is a good idea
    because you too, will learn what you can do before, during, and after the
    situation. After learning something, you can also share this, so that others can
    share this too.

    Unison in a community is so important most especially when the


    community is planning on disaster preparedness. A community that is united,
    will be easier to build a resilient community towards disaster preparedness.
    We should all work together to build a unison in our community. Because our
    role is to be involve in this kind of activities. We shall be involve on disaster
    preparedness to increase our knowledge. A responsible citizen of a community
    is a citizen who cooperates and help the community to build a resilient
    community towards disaster preparedness.

    This disaster preparedness, is a powerful weapon. But we should not forget


    our powerful shield that will guide us in any situations which is no other than,
    our Lord God. Community's disaster preparedness is useless if we have not a
    Faith in God. Being knowledgeable will help you to survive, but being an
    individual who prays in God, who trust and believe in God, who put his/her
    Faith in God is a person who will surely survive because he/she have the
    presence of the Lord God, our redeemer.

    BE DISASTER AWARE, TAKE ACTION TO PREPARE.
