Kelas IX

1. Congratulations
 Purpose:
to express our happiness about someone's achievement.
 When we express congratulations
- When someone achieves something special or unusual
- When you want to tell someone that they have done well on a (gets married, gets
a job promotion, gets a new job, has a new baby, passes an exam, graduates from
school, wins a race or contest,etc)
- When you want to tell someone that they have done well on a project, taught a
class well, given a good speech, or generally done something well.
 How to express Congratulations and respond

CONGRATULATING RESPONDING

I’d like to congratulate you on ….. How nice of you to say so

Please accept my warmest


Thank you very much for saying so
congratulations.

May I congratulate you on … It’s very kind of you to say so

Congratulations on….! Thank you

Well done! / Congratulations! Oh, thanks

 Example:
- I’d like to congratulate you on your graduation.
- May I congratulate you on passed the exam.
- Congratulation on winning the speech contest.

2. Hope
 Purpose
To say your expectation on something that will happen in the future
 When we express hope
- When you expect something possible to happen in the future
 How to express hope and respond

HOPE RESPONDING

I hope …. I hope so
 Example:
- I hope you getting well soon
- I hope win the speech competition
- I hope you pass the exam

3. Compliment
 Purpose:
To show that you like some aspect of the other person’s appearance, belonging or work. It
is also use to appreciate other people.
 When to express Compliment
- Notice something new about the person’s appearance: new car, new haircut, new bag,
etc
- On a person of his or her general appearance: ‘You look good today’
- When visiting someone’s house for the first time: ‘What a beautiful house you have.’
- When hosts prepare a meal for you: ‘The meal was delicious’.
 How to express compliment and respond

4. In order to, to, so that (Conjunction)


 Purpose
To show purpose/result of something
 When to use In order to, to, and so that
- When you want to express purpose and answer the question why something is done.
 How to use In order to, to, so that
- to + verb (to say why we do something)
- in order to + verb (to say why we do something)
- So that (supaya)+ complete Sentence (S+P+O)
 Example
- We should jog to have stronger lungs
- You should eat enough in order to be healthy
- We have to clean our bath tub regularly so that mosquitoes do not lay their eggs
there.

5. Agreement and Disagreement


 Purpose
to state our opinion on something
 When to express agreement and disagreement
- We use “Agreement” when we agree on someone opinion about something with other
people.
- We use “Disagreement” when we disagree or have different opinion about something
with other people.
 How to express Agreement and Disagreement

NO. AGREEMENT DISAGREEMENT

1. I agree. I disagree

2. I agree with you. I disagree with you

3. That's so true I don't think so

4. You're absolutely right. I have a different opinion with you.

5. That’s exactly what I think/ That's That's not always true.

 Example:
- Ani : “I think Japanese language is the most difficult language in the world”
Doni : “Yeah, I agree with you”
- Dewi : “ I think Students must do their homework by themselves”
- Ratna : “I have different opinion with you, I think it is okay to ask someone for
help if we find the homework difficult”
