Slip and cut drilling line.

and Co- Man as well as all involved in the job to assess any possible risks first.
PPE required
Hardhat, Safety boots, Overalls, Safety glasses, Gloves, Radio.
Preparation
1. Have the correct amount of drilling line required ready to slip on and marked.
2. Check Hydra shear wire line checked and cutter ready were it would be required.
3. Have spanners ready for the dead man anchor (1 5/8”) and the draw works drilling line clamp
(1 7/16”).
4. 2 adjustable spanners to remove draw works covers.
5. Hammer.
6. 2 radios fully charge.
7. Safe work and man rider permit ready.
8. #1 KAT compounded in with remaining KTA’s shut down.

4. Have 2 men removing weight indicator sensors and loosening the deadman clamp while 2 men
open up draw works covers.
5. Mark the line on the drum at the point were it needs to be cut. The drum circumference is 6 ½
feet.
6. Start #1 KTA and put it into compound.
7. Reverse off the drilling line until you come to the mark were the line is to be cut.
8. Cut the drilling line with the Hydra Shear line cutter.
9. Continue to remove the remainder of the drilling line on the drum until 1 rap remains.
10. Shut down and lock out #1 KTA.
11. Slide enough line back to remove the line clamp in the drum.
12. Remove cut off line from the work area.
13. Bring the tail of the fast line back under the drum and through the hole in the side of the drum
making sure there are no twists in the line.
14. Put drum clamp onto the line with approximately 100mm of tail and tighten the clamp.
15. Slide clamp back into place on the drum.
16. Remove lock out and start #1 KTA and select a forward gear that is easy to stall the drum with
the brake.
17. Take up 1 wrap on the drum and get the line sitting properly in the grooving.
18. Continue to spool on the remainder of the old drilling line tapping the line into the grooving to
seat it.
19. Install the draw works covers.
20. Once the old line is spooled onto the drum slip the new line through the deadman until the mark
is at the clamp. The driller should be taking up the added line onto the drum while it is being
slipped through.
21. Tighten the deadman clamp.
22. Install the weight sensators.
23. Pick up on the blocks leaving the slip in place until the hang off line can be removed.
24. Remove and tie back the hang off line.
25. Make sure all tools are put away.
26. Continue with trip.
PROCEDURE MANAUAL
A copy of this procedure should be placed in the Rig Manager Procedure manual. The procedure should
be given to the Operators DSV’s and reviewed for interfaces. The procedure should be discussed with
all rig crews during the weekly safety meetings. Fill out a training form for the review meetings.
