The Mirai uses the Toyota Fuel Cell System which combines Hybrid and Fuel Cell technology
to create a zero emission vehicle – water is the only substance emitted from the tailpipe.

Structure
The body structure, including
front and rear chassis legs, is
largely of 440 & 590MPa High
Strength Steels, with 980MPa
used for the sill reinforcement
and ‘A’ post reinforcement.
1500MPa UHSS is used for the
B post reinforcement, roof side
reinforcement members, and
for the lateral floor members
presumably to protect the
fuel cell stack. The fuel cell is
protected by a CFRTP (Carbon
Fibre Reinforced ThermoPlastic)
under-shield.
The Mirai also features Rear Cross Traffic Alert; Blind Spot Indication System; Adaptive Cruise
Control and a Rear View Camera.
If the lane departure warning camera is replaced or removed and installed, the toe-in
is adjusted, or suspension components are removed/replaced, a re-calibration procedure
is required which will require specialist equipment.
Technology
Specific procedures are in place and should be followed to ensure safe working practices
for: service, repair, accident damage, recovery, fire and other specific aspects of the High
Voltage and Hydrogen systems.

Specialist training is required for any person carrying out servicing or inspection of the High
Voltage system.
The Fuel Cell Stack uses a specific coolant fluid which has insulating properties and differs
to the coolant used for the motor system – the two fluids must not be mixed.
The Mirai has two carbon fibre reinforced Hydrogen tanks which are located on the underside
of the vehicle towards the rear.
There are separate service plug grips for the Fuel Cell Stack Assembly and the EV Battery.
Both of these must be removed in order to isolate the system for service and inspection work.
All High Voltage wiring harnesses and connectors are coloured orange and High Voltage
components have “High Voltage” warning labels.
Noise reducing glass is used for the windscreen and door glass.

Powertrains
The Mirai features the Toyota Fuel Cell system, combining hybrid and fuel cell technology.
More energy efficient than a conventional internal combustion engine and it emits no harmful
substances. A 5kg fill of Hydrogen will give a range of just over 300 miles.
