Background
Ronald Marapon dela Rosa , also known as Bato dela Rosa or simply Bato , is a
retired Filipino police officer who serves as the Director General of the Director of the
Bureau of Corrections since April 30, 2018. Dela Rosa was born on January 21, 1962 at
Barangay Bato, Santa Cruz, Davao del Sur, to Teodoro Diamaton dela Rosa, Sr. and
Anesia Cruspero Marapon. His family was "dirt poor" as his father earned little money
working as a tricycle driver. Dela Rosa was educated at Bato Elementary School and
Sta. Cruz National High School before attending Mindanao State University (MSU) to
study for a Bachelor of Science degree in public administration. In 1982, he left MSU to
join the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) and graduated in 1986 as part of PMA
Sinagtala class. Dela Rosa completed a Scout Ranger Orientation Course, Police
Intelligence Officer Advance Course, Police Officers’ Comptrollership Course, and the
Police Safety Officer Course. He also attended training courses of the FBI Academy and
U.S. Army Ranger School in the United States, and Air Marshal Instructors Course by the
Australian Federal Police. Dela Rosa was nicknamed "Bato" during his first assignment in
Davao, when his upperclassmen likened his body to a rock.

Dela Rosa joined the police force in 1986 as a Lieutenant of the now-defunct
Philippine Constabulary in Davao City
In 1992, he was designated as Chief Inspector and worked as one of the staff at
Police Regional Office (PRO)-Davao.
In 2005, he was assigned to the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) as city
personnel officer. After eight months, he was transferred back to PRO-Davao
and was promoted as chief of the Regional Intelligence and Investigation
Division (RIID).
In 2012, he led the crackdown on the carnapping syndicate allegedly
masterminded by Ryan "Baktin" Yu
On July 1, 2016, he was officially sworn in as the 21st chief of the Philippine
National Police while being promoted to Director-General, the highest-ranked
PNP officer.
On April 30, 2018, Dela Rosa was appointed as Director General of the Bureau of
Corrections. The appointment document was released publicly on May 3.
Controversies
Dela Rosa considered the kidnap-slay of Korean businessman Jee Ick-joo as the point in
his police career when he hit rock bottom.
Jee was abducted from his home in Angeles City on October 18, 2016. He was then
brought to the Camp Crame, the PNP national headquarters, where he was strangled
to death by drug squad officers.
PNP was at the center of public outrage after the killing of the 17-year-old school boy
Kian Loyd Delos Santos at the hands of Caloocan City cops.
Witnesses have testified that they saw police officers dragging the defenseless boy
accused of being a drug peddler along the Tullahan River and shooting him there
dead.

Alan La Madrid Purisima MPA (born November 21, 1959) [1] is a former Filipino
police officer. He served as Director General of the Philippine National Police between
December 17, 2012 and February 5, 2015.
After finishing high school, Purisima entered the Philippine Military Academy in
1977 and graduated from the academy in 1981. After his graduation from military
academy he joined the Philippine Constabulary. He graduated from the Manuel L.
Quezon University in 1995. He earned a Masters of Public Administration degree from
the university.

Ombudsman over the alleged involvement in a ₱100-million anomalous deal between
the Philippine National Police and WerFast Documentary Agency, Inc, a private courier
company.

In 1995, the Presidential Anti-Crime Commission (PACC) was linked to the killing of 11
members of Kuratong Baleleng in Quezon City. In 2003, the High Tribunal ordered the
Quezon City Regional Trial Court to try the case against Lacson and 33 other police
officials. The trial court however dismissed the criminal case, finding absence of
probable cause. The special prosecuting team later moved for new trial before the
High Tribunal to remand case to the trial court to present new evidence against Senator
Lacson, inter alia. On May 2, 2008, the Supreme Court of the Philippines resolved to take
cognizance of the motion of the families of the slain Kuratong Baleleng members for
revival of the murder case against police officials and Senator Panfilo Lacson.
On February 5, 2010, Branch 18 of the Regional Trial Court in Manila issued an arrest
warrant against him. On February 11, 2010, Interpol issued a Red Notice for Lacson.

Edgar Batalla Aglipay (born 13 September 1948) is a Filipino businessman and retired
police officer with the rank of general. He is the current chairman of DIWA partylist. He
was the Chief of the Philippine National Police from August 23, 2004 to March 14, 2005.
In 1972, as a young lieutenant he was the platoon leader of the raiding team that
captured of MV Karagatan which prevented the communist insurgents from getting
hold of 1,500 M-14 and other high power firearms which if not prevented would have
further boosted the communist insurgency in the Philippines.[1] Also, a two time chief of
the National Capital Region Police Office from 1998 to 2000 and from 2001 to 2002 his
second appointment to the post. General Aglipay is a relative of revolutionary hero
Gregorio Aglipay. He was a member of the Philippine Military Academy class of 1971,
and has a Master's of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of the
Philippines.[2]. In addition, he has a law degree from the Ateneo de Manila University.
After retirement from government service in 2010, he concentrated on his EMME Group
of companies, a group of small and medium enterprises focusing on security, logistics
and property. He was also honored as a captain of two industries: The trucking industry,
as chairman emeritus of Confederation of Truckers Association of the Philippines, and
the private security industry, as chairman emeritus of Philippine Association of Detective
