IELTS Rainwater Diagram Reported 2015
Initially, the rain which falls on the rooftop is collected by the gutter and then runs down the pipe at the
side of the house into the drain at the bottom. Each house collects rainwater in this way and the
rainwater is then passed along underground drains to the water filter.
The rainwater passes through the water filter to remove any impurities. Once it has been filtered, it
continues along the pipes to a storage tank. From this point, the water goes from storage to the water
treatment. At this stage of the process, the water is treated with chemicals in order to make it fit for
consumption. When the water is ready for drinking, it travels along pipes that lead back into the houses
in the town where people can use the water for daily consumption.

I do not understand what you mean. You must write sentences – this is an English language test. You
must also use paragraphs because that is a criteria for marking.

Hi Liz, thank you for your work here. I will have the exam next month and i’m very worried about the
writing part (i’m taking the academic module). I have problems with the verb tense, I don’t know which one I
should use in both task 1 and 2. Moreover, i feel very insecure regarding the cohesion and coherence aspect, i tend
in fact to write in a way that might be too “twisted” to read. So, i would like to improve as fast as possibile my
writing skills, also to learn how to use properly linking devices. I need to score at least 6.5 in writing part, hence
i’m very nervous. Could you tell me some VERY useful book where to study in details the writing part for
academic, or any other tools to achieve my goal? Thank you so much. have a nice day.

Yes. But always remember that although they are in the same paragraph, they are separate

Hi Liz,
First, I would like to thank you for your valuable work. I have a question about your example. First, in this lesson
(http://ieltsliz.com/writing-task-1-paragraphs/), you explained that task 1 has 4 paragraphs, but in this example
you only wrote 3 and the overall paragraph is inside the introduction, why?
Best Regards,
Cesar M.

That’s right. Most task 1 will have 4 paragraphs. Occasionally 5 – but rarely. Diagrams often have just
3 as the overview statement can be put with the introduction. At no time can you have only one body

The task will be given in full practice tests and is the same for ALL writing task 1. You must write no
less than 150 words and should spend 20 mins on it. You can find full instructions in the IELTS Cambridge Test
books 1 to 11.

Initially, rainwater drops over every house roof to eventually run its course into the land where drains are located.
Rainwater enters through every drain which fills up the pipes running through every house. A water filter is

located at the end of the passage of the filled pipe, in order for the rainwater to be filtered and stored in a big tank.
After the rainwater is filtered and stored in the storage tank, it runs through another pipe connecting the storage
tank with a tank that combines the filtered water with some treatment chemicals that cleans water and transforms
it into drinking water. The water eventually runs through every house and is ready to be used through sinks as
drinking water.”

Hi Liz,
Please can you have a look at the writing task 1 I just wrote, and suggest any corrections you deem necessary.
Thank you.
The image above illustrates the process rainwater undergoes before it is suitable for drinking in a town in
Australia.
Overall, there are about 5 processes rain water goes through from the time it falls on the roof until it is treated
using chemicals before it is suitable for drinking.
First of all the rain water in collected from the roof through a drain, in the residential area. The water collected in
the drain then goes through a an underground water filter , and is subsequently stored in a storage tank. The
stored water then passes into a treatment unit where it is further processed using chemicals and is finally delivered
through faucets into homes for drinking.

Yes. If you fail to give an overview in task 1, you will automatically get band 5 in one of the four

The diagram illustrates how Australian collects rainwater for consumption after some processes. The
step by step method as seen in the diagram has been used and still on, in the Australia to generate drinking water
during the rainy season.
From the illustrated diagram it can seen that the rainwater after coming down from the roof of the house, it’s been
channelled through the pipe beside the building directly for filtration to eliminate clumps and other particles, to be
stored in on a large container.
The stored rainwater that has undergone filterstion processes will further be treated with a chemical may be
Chlorine to keep it safe from germs and other micro organism that might be present. After then, the Chlorinated
rainwater is been distributed to Australians for drinking and for daily consumption.

Hi liz, i hope you can spare some of your time to read my own version of the above diagram. Thank you.
The diagram gives information about the process of converting rainwater to potable water in Australian Town.
Overall, the rainwater collected is store and cure in a huge chambers located underground, as well as the drain and
the line pipe that connects to several houses.
The rainwater that falls from the houses in Australian town is being catch by a drain and pass through a water
filter that disposes large particles present in rainwater. Then, it is stored in a huge chamber underground before it
is transfer to another chamber for treatment.
In terms of treating rainwater, a chemical mixtures are added into the rainwater to cure micro organisms that are
harmful or can cause certain diseases to the residents. After the water is cured, it passes again through another
pipe for distribution of potable water to the different houses. Consequently, residents will use and drink this cured
potable rain water.
