Prolouge:

Two Households, makes civil hands unclean.

Both alike in Dignity, And so the Prince has called a tournament,

in Fair Verona where we lay our scene, to keep the battle from the city streets.

From ancient grudge, Now rival Capulets and Montagues,

Break to new mutiny, they try their strengths to gain the royal ring.

Scene 1.1: Battlegrounds [Mercutio cornered Tybalt down]

Prince We here declare, Mercutio, from the House of Montagues, our Champion. And
{CURTAINS OPENS}
so I bid you all enjoy the day.

[Tybalt and Mercutio sword-fighting]


[Citizens Cheers]

[Citizens cheering]
[Mercutio raises his hands]

Lord Capulet Fight Cousin!


[House of Montagues ran to him]

[Citizens continue to cheer]


{CURTAINS CLOSE}
Scene 1.2: Capulet's Household [Abraham angered but Balthasar stops him]

Gregory Leave it. The quarrel is between our masters.


{CURTAINS OPENS SLOWLY}
Sampson The quarrel is between our masters and us, their men.
[Juliet running around with her nurse in hurry]
[Benvolio enteers]
Nurse Juliet? Juliet please. My Lady and My Lord will soon be home with news of the
tournament. [Sampson and Gregory looks back and see Abraham and Balthasar]

Juliet Then hurry nurse. Why do you dally so? [Sampson bites his thumb]

Nurse Oh! I should so hurry till my heart gives out. [Abraham draws a sword]

[Juliet stops running] [Sampson and Gregory draw a sword]

Juliet Your heart is made of sterner stuff than that. [Balthasar draws a sword]

Nurse Your heart is made of sterner stuff… [Benvolio draws a sword as well]

[Juliet laughs] Benvolio Stop!

Nurse That you should laugh to see me so wore out. [Sampson, Gregory, Abraham, and Balthasar fights]

Juliet I keep you fast to make you young and strong. Benvolio Stop! Put down your swords! You know not what you do!

[Juliet smiles] [The four continues to fight]

{CURTAINS CLOSES} [The Market panics]

[Enter Tybalt]

Scene 1.3: Market [Citizens watch in fear]

[Tybalt draws a sword]


{CURTAINS OPENS }
Tybalt Hold up there. Turn now, Benvolio, and look upon thy death.
[Sellers sells weapons]
[Tybalt points his sword to Benvolio]
[Enter Sampson and Gregory]
Benvolio Tybalt, I do but keep the peace. Put up your sword or manage it to part these
Balthasar Here. What about this one?

[showed a weapon to Abraham]


Tybalt What? Do you draw your sword and talk of peace? I hate the word as I hate hell,
all Montagues and thee.
[Sampson bumped into Abraham]

[Benvolio and Tybalt fights]


[Abraham and Balthasar looks into them]

[Lord and Lady Montague enters]


Sampson Do you not choke to see Lord Tybalt bested by a Montague dog?
Lord Montague Back, Tybalt! You argue with a child. Turn now and fight your equal if Escalus And now, on pain of death, all fighting men depart.

[The Prince exits]
[Tybalt and Lord Montague fights]
[Everyone gets their weapons once again]
[Lord and Lady Capulet enters]
{CURTAINS CLOSES}
Lord Capulet Old Montague doth flourish his blade in spite of me!

[Lord Capulet draws sword]


Scene 1.4: Romeo's Studio
[Lord Montague slips his foot]

{CURTAINS OPENS }
[Tybalt points a sword to Lord Montague]

[Romeo painting]
Lady Montague No!

[Benvolio Enters]
[Lady Montague pushes back the sword pointed to Lord Montague]

Benvolio Good Afternoon, My Cousin.


Lady Capulet Enough!

Romeo Is it so? I thought it should be night.


[Lady Capulet pulls Tybalt]

Benvolio Not much past 4.


Citizen The Prince! The Prince!

Romeo When I am sad, the hours seem long.


Escalus Rebellious Subjects!

[Benvolio's curious]
[Everyone looks at the Prince]

Benvolio What sadness lengthens Romeo's hours?


Escalus Stop this!

[Romeo looks at Benvolio]


[The Market quiet down]

Romeo I lack that thing which, if I had it, would make them short.
Escalus Enemies of peace would stain the pleasure of a tournament with bitter blood?
Throw your ill-tempered weapons to the ground!
Benvolio I see. You're in love.

[Everyone throws their weapons down]


[Romeo continued painting]

Escalus And hear the sentence of your angry Prince. Three civil brawls, bred of a foolish
Romeo How was the tournament?
word by thee, Lord Capulet or Montague, have thrice destroyed the calm of our streets.
If ever you disturb our town again, your lives will pay the price for the offense. You, Benvolio It served its turn..
Capulet, you go along with me.
[Benvolio draws a sword]

[Lord Capulet bows]


Benvolio To launch another clash with Capulets.
Escalus And Montague, come you this afternoon.
[Benvolio draws sword back]

[Lord Montague bows]


Romeo So you must fence with hate, and I with love.
[Romeo smirks] Benvolio Cousin, I pray you change your mind.

[Benvolio sits down] {CURTAINS CLOSE}

Benvolio Love is a harsh tyrant where he rules.

Romeo Love is a smoke, raised on the fume of sighs, a madness drenched in syrup and Scene 1.5: Capulet's Office
choked with rage.

{CURTAINS OPENS }
Benvolio May I not know who it is that you love?

[Capulet's talking to Paris]


Romeo I love a woman.

Lord Capulet My child is still a stranger to this world. Let two more summers wither in
Benvolio Tsk. That much I found unaided.

[Benvolio goes and persuades Romeo] her, gentle Paris. Win her heart.

[Romeo stands up] [Paris smiles]

Romeo Rosaline. Lord Capulet Now, Peter! Sir! Come hither, pray.

Benvolio Rosaline? The niece of Lord Capulet? [Peter enters]

[Benvolio's furious] [Lord Capulet stands from his seat]

Romeo The same. Lord Capulet Take this list of the last and final names, search them through Verona,
bid them come to feast and welcome at my house this night. Go.
[Benvolio raises an eyebrow]

[Peter exits]
Benvolio Be ruled by me and forget to think of her.
[Lord Capulet bows to Paris then seats]
Romeo Oh, teach me how I should forget to think.
[Paris bows in return then exits]
[Romeo goes back to painting]

Benvolio Love will not call on you but once, nor stay forever when he comes. Release
your eyes. Be glad she does not care. Examine other beauties.

[Benvolio tries hard to persuade Romeo]

[Romeo stands up again]

Romeo To what purpose?

[Romeo's furious and exits]
